The Enigma of Qumran by YourEnchantedGardener .....

Why is the word "Essene" downplayed in the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. I am looking for answers. I am searching the web. I will ask the Curator this question before long. I highly recommend visiting the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit at the San Diego Natural History Museum. What do the Dead Sea Scrolls mean to you?

Looking for reasons why the
Dead Sea Scroll exhibit downplays the use of the word "Essene."

There is an beautifully done video clip
that can be viewed online that describes this world class museum exhibit.

You can see the video clip here:

The video clip calls the inhabitants the "Sons of Light."

To read an article that downplays the idea that
Qumran was inhabited by the Essenes go here:

"Qumran is a puzzling place. For one thing,
we don’t even know what the people who lived there
in its heyday called the place. For another, it is not even certain who these people were;
for many years, the prevailing theory about Qumran maintained
that the inhabitants were members
of the Second Temple era Jewish sect, the Essenes.
In recent years, however, this view has been questioned.
For the past 10 years, two Israeli archaeologists,
Dr. Itzhak Magen and Mr. Yuval Peleg,
have been digging there in an attempt to answer
the question of "what was Qumran?"
They now believe they have an answer,
and it is a far cry from the Dead Sea Sect theory."
