Gratitude of Scrolls-3

Adventures at the San Diego Natural History Museum.
How being run over by a heard of Elephants
at the Circus kept me from being a
Personal Non Grata. How I came
to visit the Exhibit.

There is a delightful woman who works
the reception desk for the San Diego
Natural History Museum.

Her name is Evelyn Jackson.

She has her station on the Fourth floor
inside the glass doors to the Staff offices.

I came to the San Diego Natural History Museum
some time in November. It was an unexpected visit.
I had been working night and day on a writing project.
I went shopping at Whole Foods Market.

My guidance was to buy some new razor blades.
I missed the signal, buy a new razor as well.

When I left home, I had no idea I would be going
to the Museum that day. I hadn't shaved.
I hadn't even changed my clothes.
I was in intense writer's mode.

Then, at Whole Foods Market, my inner guidance
told me to head over to the Museum of Natural History.

It has been a busy year.
I hadn't been to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit,
although it had been here since July.

Shame! Shame! Shame on me!
Mr. Essene Minister. A world class exhibit
of the Scrolls was in town. I hadn't even been down there!

What I was doing from July-December is another story,
to say the least I was pre-occupied.

I knew I would be saving this exhibit for the Holiday Season.

I was still in the aura of my 60th Birthday November 19
on that day I went to the museum. It was the first Tuesday
of the month, that is free day at the museum.

I did not know where to park.
I caught a handicap spot in front of another museum,
then walked the distance.

There was an Tarot reader between me and the museum.
I stopped to chat.

She was a devotee of the Hari Chrisna folks,
and had some judgements her spiritual perspective
on Life was somehow at a higher octave than my own.
We talked for about fifteen minutes.
I told her about my mission--to plant Soul on Earth
with Seeds.

World War 3 could have started on the spot
if I had gotten into an argument. I was in a generous
mood, so rather than disagree with what she was saying,
I offered to pull a card.

The Card was auspicious, but to tell you the truth
in this moment I do not remember what it was.

I held to my Essene point of view.
There was place in my world for her viewpoint.
I could honor it without disregarding my own.

Then, I went on the Museum.

I basically was there to refamiliarize with the location
of the Museum and check on cost. I had no intention
to go in.

There was a Security Guard outside the door.

It turned out this was free Tuesday.

Oh it's a Free Day!
I said to myself. I might as well go in.

She went through my fanny pack.
I was asked to leave my Sharpie markers
that I use to sign notes on laminated poems.

I went up the stairs imagining that
the Dead Sea Scrolls were free as well.
I was excited. I knew there was a $20. +
fee normally.

I entered the Museum.
There was a ticket person.

He told me that the Dead Sea Scrolls were not free,
but that the rest of the Museum was free that day.

I was taken aback for a moment.
I felt some disappointment.
Then my Enchanted Gardener's mind
started to whirl.

"What is the name of the Museum Director?"
I asked. He said, Dr. Heger.

"Heger" what an interesting name, I thought.
Hegar is the second wife of Abraham,
the mother of Ismael, the founder of Islam.

"I rarely see him." said the man at the gate.
"I believe he is here on weekends." he told me.

I am not sure what I had in mind.

I walked around the Museum a bit.
I found my way to the entrance to the Dead Sea Scroll exhibit.

There was a large poster with all the names
of the Patrons and Donors.

The name of The Szekely Foundation
as well as Deborah and Sarah Livia were up there.
The Szekely Foundation is one of my Enchanted Garden Project Sponsors.
I am one of the last Essene Ministers ordained
by the late Professor Szekely. Deborah was the co-founder
with Edmond Bordeaux Szekely of the original
Essene School of Life that later became
Rancho La Puerta, one of the most popular destination spas.

Rancho La Puerta is where the Fitness Revolution began
in 1940, according to some of their old literature.

Seeing the names of Deborah and Sarah Livia, her daughter
up there, put me on alert. It felt good to see their names up there.

My next stop was an looking at some photos in the entryway of the
exhibit. The photos were calling attention to the similarily
between the climate and environments of Israel and San Diego.
They are both on the 32 latitude. This similarity was not a new
idea to me.

The connection goes deeper.
From my Essene point of view,
The Holistic Heath Movement had one of its
birth places in San Diego in the early 70's and 80's.
Members of the Essene Soul Group where instrumental
in the founding of the movement here in San Diego.
It is not by chance that Professor Szekely found
a home in So Cal, or grounded the Essene School of Life here!
The Professor makes the point about the similarity
in climate in his writings.

As I walked down the corridor to the North End,
I could see inside the exhibit.
It was one step away.

I was tempted to take the next step, but
they I saw headlines:

"Essene Minister Persona Non Grata
at Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit."

Just what I needed! Not exactly the best PR.

I confess I once snuck
into the Circus as a kid.

The Ringling Bros,
Barnum and Bailey Circus was at the LA Sport's
Arena. I found my way in through the entertainers
entrance, without paying.

As is natural to me, I made a friend soon thereafter.
He played the trumpet in the band. The circus
was about to begin, and so I was heading back across
another entry way to my seat, when the music began.
A herd of elephants ran by me. I felt as if I could
have been squashed. So much for my future
as Your Enchanted Gardener.

Thank God, for that herd of elephants.
The Incident flashed through my mind
in the presence of dinasaurs down at the Museum.
I was glad I had Curbed My Enthusiasm
and not tempted fate.

A moment later, a Security person showed
up.

"Do you know Dr. Heger? I asked.
Other thoughts were running through my mind.
She said, "No, I am just a Security Guard."
I was cordial.

Being that this was free day,
I decided to go up to the Fourth Floor
where they were advertising an exhibition
of photos from Israel. I thought I would see it.
On the way up, I noticed various photos framed
with price tags that were quite high.

It was a lesson.
I undersell my own photos.

Then, I saw them,
the glass doors to the Administrative
headquarters of the Museum! Over there in
the corner.

There was a sign that said something like
Staff Only. I looked inside. I saw a receptionist.
I knocked on the glass. I motioned to her.
She motioned back, "Come on in!"

She was gracious.
She was kind and helpful.

I recognized her.
I greeted her as a friend.

She was taken aback.
"Do I know you?"
she asked.

We talked more.
I told her about my work with Children
and planting seeds. She told me about
the Museum, and shared some wonderful
stories about the President, Dr. Heger,
and his convictions about to support
the success of the Museum.

I learned there were many Museums
in Balboa Park. This Museum succeeded
through its sponsors and patrons and members.

I was instantly a fan.

I apologized for my appearance.
I looked like Professor Szekely
coming out of Meso America from
an Archeological Dig.

Evelyn said, I looked like an Artist.

I introduced myself, letting it be
known I was one of his last Essene Ministers.

Then, the words came out my mouth,
"Is Dr. Heger in????"

Evelyn, being very helpful, went to check.

He was in.

She led me to the Office of the President
of the San Diego Natural History Museum.

He was dressed in suit pants and was
wearing a tie. I was in winter garb,
quite unkempt in my own eyes.

I apologized again, for not coming
to visit the exhibit earlier in its run.
I told Dr. Heger I was saving my visits
for the Holiday season.

During the Holidays, I am overshadowed
by Essene Spirit.

I told my association with the Professor Szekely.
I also let it be known that I wanted to do some
writing about the exhibit on my popular internet blog.

I was directed to Delle Wilett, head of Marketing.
She gave me the Press Kit. It was beautifully done.
There were two disks, one with photos.

I also asked for a time to visit the exhibit.
She said she would put my name at Will Call
for a Press Pass.

Then, I went back to see Evelyn.
She talked some about my work.
She walked me into a room where there
were incredible botanical drawings.

I could see that the San Diego Natural Museum
wanted to help connect others with Nature.
There was a natural fit to do programs here.

I visited the exhibit three times.
Once a day or so after my 60th birthday,
another time on the Winter Solstice.
The third time as a guest Dr. Pam Fox Kuhlken,
during the Final Day in the Final Hour.
