What about SWEDISH BITTERS?
by pixie_poet 18 y
View Entire Thread 6
I heard that Swedish Bitters helps our livers produce and excrete more bile and makes the liver healthier and more effective. Has anyone here had any experience with Swedish Bitters?
I am trying it now and my stool is darker (like it has more bile in it) but I just wonder if it’s not from the dark color of the swedish bitters. The website for the swedish bitters claims it cures almost all diseases, just like some say that liver flushes cure all diseases. I’ve done liver flushes before and they always get lots of stones out, butI’d like something easier I could do to get the bile moving. ...

Swedish bitters are very different from Chinese bitters. I don’t do well with Swedish bitters at ALL.
Swedish bitters are an aid to digestion, but not to the liver entirely. Here are the ingredients in the most popular kind of swedish bitters:
Aloe, Manna, Senna, Rhubarb Root, Zedoary Root, Theriac Venetian, Angelica Root, Carline Thistle Root, Myrrh, Camphor, Saffron in an Alcohol and Water Base
All of these herbs are in the bitter/astringent/Sour type, which increase YIN and react mainly to the circulatory system. Aloe, for instance, encourages blood vessels to contract, which ...

Hi Pioneer!
I do take Swedish Bitters, and I find it very, very good! I take 4 TS a day. There are differences with ingredients. The one I take (I live in Germany) has many, many herbs, also wormwood and walnut. I can feel it’s working, because I need more Ornithine when taking the Swedish Bitters :-)) and I can really feel my critters move in the upper abdomen (I don’t think they’re moving because of happiness!).
Swedish Bitters are a very great liver detoxifyer, and therefore I think, they are not too bad when having lodgers....

I agree.

Yes, but I prefer Grape Bitters. Swedish Bitters contain some harsh laxatives and camphor. Grape Bitters do not have either, and they are a lot cheaper. About $6 for a 2 ounce bottle.

Hon,
Google herbal bitters. Usually it is a combination of herbs that are bitter tasting. Gentian is usually one of the herbs. Not all health food stores will carry different bitters, though most carry Swedish Bitters. Although Swedish bitters contain camphor. I’ve tried it before and the taste is more off-putting than other bitters because of the camphor. I’m not sure what the health benefit of consuming camphor is, though. I didn’t stick with the Swedish bitters long enough to notice a difference, I found it truly noxious, and I’ll knock down herbal tinctures without regard to ...

Hello Hv

Last night i put a few drops of the propolis in organic alchohol on my toung to treat a sore throat , wow is this stuff bitter , i almost gaged it tast so bad. My question is would the propolis do as good of a job as the swedish bitters? Maybe i can keep the swedish bitters at home and the the propolis for meals at resturants.
what about red whine, could a few sips of wine before a meal give that bitter taste?

The information given above is specifically for Chinese Bitters rather Swedish Bitters which you asked about. I apologise for the mistake and thank daizymae for her intervention. I am glad someone is marking the homework.
They are different product. Swedish bitters help the liver through improving digestion. The common ingredients of Swedish Bitters are:
Aloe, Manna, Senna, Rhubarb Root, Zedoary Root, Theriac Venetian, Angelica Root, Carline Thistle Root, Myrrh, Camphor and Saffron.
I would still integrate the use of this herb with a rest period of 1 week in 4.

A good tip. Buy a bottle of Swedish Bitters, a liver tonic, start with about half a teaspoon full twice daily in a Tablespoon of water. Build up slowly (depending on your tolerance) till you can take 5 mls three times daily before meals. Best to take BEFORE foods.
If you stay on Swedish Bitters for about 8 - 12 weeks, watch what happens to your liver. You should notice big changes, for the better.

I just wanted to share some info on a herbal tonic that can be useful to those battling candida. Candida causes the large intestine environment to switch from being slightly acid to being slightly alkaline. The friendly probiotic bacteria mainly from the lactobacillus family produce and secrete lactic acid and are known as lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The LAB dominate the gut by crowding out pathogens and also in the case of candida by creating an acidic environment which is unfavorable to the candida. One goal in treating candida infection of the gut is to restore the natural acid balance. ...

I agree with the Swedish Bitters suggestion. Green bitter foods stimulate bile secretion. That is the purpose of eating mixed green salad before a meal.
Take a teaspoon of Swedish Bitters before each meal. You will note the gurgling from the gall bladder within the hour. Artichokes help too. Your body needs a balance of sweet sour salty and bitter. Once a bitter taste hits the tongue digestive secretions begin - from the tongue down to the gall bladder.
Hope you feel better soon.

It depends a lot on the bitter. There are some bitters that have compounds I would worry about such as the camphor in Swedish Bitters. Since you are breast feeding your best bet would be to get a tincture of artichoke leaf. This would act as a bitter, supports the liver, and is safe.

Everyone is different, if you suffer any ill effects, I would suggest spitting them out once they have achieved the desired effect of stimulating the vagus nerve.

Have you tried simply getting a powdered bitter herb such as andrographis? 1/2 tsp. under the tongue with a mouthful of water - get the herb on the back of the tongue to stimulate the vagus nerve - and swallow...much less expen$ive than bottled bitters.

Most bitters are actually beneficial for long term use. And plant estrogens (phytoestrogens) are also beneficial. They protect us from cancers, and can help prevent estrogen induced disorders like endometriosis.
Bitters work by stimulating the bitter receptors of the tongue, which in turn stimulates the vagus nerve. This leads to an increase of stomach acid, pancreatic enzymes, and bile, which is why they are also known as digestive bitters. Stimulating the vagus nerve this way also causes the liver to flush, which allows the liver to break down dangerous substances more effectively, su ...
