root canals can be filled with a composite or amalgam for the final filling. The inside of the tooth is typically filled with gutta percha but the final filling would be amalgam or composite. So you should be able to tell by looking at your tooth. And i agree that root canals are extremely toxic and probably more of a threat to your health than amalgams.I recently just had 5 root canals removed.None of them were really bothering me.Couple of them were almost 20 yrs old.It was hard to do because it was 5 teeth and now i have to wear a partial. But the benefits to my health have been wonderful.I ...

Re: Tooth that needed root canal no longer hurting?
by riaarora 8 y
When people are told that they need a root canal treatment, they usually think about pain. However, the pain they feel is caused by an infection in the tooth, not by root canal treatment.A root canal is done to eliminate that pain. The root canal procedure itself is painless.A local anesthetic numbs the tooth and the surrounding area. Many people may be afraid to have a root canal because they are anxious about having dental work done. Dentists can provide calming medicines, such as nitrous oxide.

I have tried to find posts that showed oil pulling worked to cure root canal infected teeth. I have only found posts that showed it healed teeth that were still alive. Since a root canal is because the tooth root has died. The person has an unatural dead tooth being propped up in his mouth and if you research root canals and Dr. Price, his research on people with root canals -you and your friend may never opt to have a root canal done again. This is my opinion. I will never have a root canal knowing what I know now. There is a forum here on root canals cleanup. They know all about them, an ...

Re: Root Canal before Crown?
by mikeh 18 y
That seems kind of strange. When I had my root canal done, the denist who did the root canal completely drilled out the temporary filling, cleaned out the tooth did the root canal, and then put in a new filling over the root canal. The new filling was the foundation for a new crown. But I ended up getting the tooth pulled, because the infection persisted - I never got a crown.
Anyway, I guess my point is, why would the denist want to do that? It may make sense if you need some time before you get the root canal done. But if you are going to get the root canal done in a few days why ...

Re: Root canal or Extraction

My reading tells me that root canals are effective well over 90% of the time. But you HAVE to have a crown put on the tooth after the root canal to finally seal it. Otherwise the root canal isn’t really completed. Most root canal failures are due to the patient not going back for the crown, often for financial reasons after the root canal has already eaten into their budget.
Infections are treated by removing the source...either the infected inner part of the tooth (via a root canal) or by pulling the whole tooth. Infections, anaerobic or aerobic, will then be cleared by the body ...

Hi Shygirl,
Root canal is not bad. It is a medical treatment that is required to save some teeth. Root canal treatment is usually done to alleviate pain, but the tooth usually need a crown for protection. Like any medical treatment, root canal is not an ideal treatment, but often time it is the best way to save a tooth. And it is not uncommon for a root canal tooth (with proper restoration, like a crown) to last for many, many years.

1. pulp capping with calcium hydroxide, acid etching/direct composite resins, or mineral trioxide aggregate(MTA) for vita teeth with exposed nerve due to dental work

Your healing time after root canal?
by courtneyd 20 y

I had a root canal performed on Monday 7/12. The reason was for a cracked tooth. Before the root canal, if I chewed on the side of the cracked tooth, sharp pains would travel from the rooth, into my jaw. The tooth was crowned after the root canal. I still cannot chew on that side. If I try, I get the same sharp pain sensation right where the crack was in the tooth.
Is this normal after a root canal? Perhaps is it caused by all the trauma the tooth has been through?

Has rockybird suggests, root canals often are breeding grounds of anaerobic bacteria; a root canaled tooth is a great spot for the bacteria because there is no blood supply therefore your immune system cannot touch it. Dangerous waste products and infection can proliferate to other parts of the body.
If you are having unexplained symptoms, do some reasearch on root canals and amalgams but proceed carefully - obviously the best thing would be to have the root canaled teeth removed along with the amalgams, specially if there is a direct connection to any symptoms you are experiencin), but ...

Can oil pulling clean the socket of a removed root-canal?

Hi Oil Pullers,
I have been oil pulling for about a month. Now my mouth is clean and healthy except there is minor inflammation of the gum harboring the socket of a removed infected root-canal (I have not replaced the removed root-canal with a new artifical tooth.) The removal was done by a conventional dentist. He did not thoroughly clean out the surface of the root-canal socket, as he did not notice any infection of the socket. But, according to Dr. Weston A.
