w-3 w-6 competition
by Vance MacThamhais 15 y
Both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids have to compete for enzymes in order to produce their final product. Studies have reported that the enzymes used in these pathways were found to prefer the omega-3 pathway. It turns out then that in diets high in omega-3 fatty acids, most of the enzymes will be converting the omega-3 acids.
The omega-6 fatty acids, Dihommogamma-Linoleic Acid (DGLA) in particular, can be converted to either the anti-inflammatory PG1 or into arachidonic acid (AA), a precursor of PG2. Conversion of DGLA into PG1 does not require any enzymes, but conversion of DGLA in ...

It is an absurd statement to say that most fish oil is rancid....As absurd is to recommend an oil with omega 3, 6 and 9. That is ridiculous...
The main reason to take omega 3 is to balance for the enormous quantities of omega 6 our modern foods have, and now you are going to add more omega 6 with your supplement. Non sense.
You should only take supplements with omega 3, not omega 6 or 9. Those last will make you fatter and less healthy.

Re: FAT theory
by Rick67 14 y
Our bodies need a lot more Omega 6 (Linoleic Acid) then Omega 3 (Alpha Linolenic Acid). The ratio should be around 3:1 or 4:1.
The so-called ”experts” tell us we’re getting too much Omega 6 in our diet and that we need to take more Omega 3. The problem is the Omega 6 most people are getting in their diets is junk Omega 6 and the Omega 3’s most people are taking is made up of mostly Omega 3 derivatives.
I recently discovered I was getting almost no Omega 6 in my diet. I’m now taking Hemp oil which contains almost the perfect ration of Omega 6 to 3 (3:1).

Omega 6 role in increasing neutrophils / WBCs

A growing body of scientific literature is helping parents and doctors better understand the link between fatty acids and behavioral disorders such as ADHD. The ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (such as arachidonic acid) seems especially important. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are omega-3 fatty acids found in flaxseed oil and cold water fish. In the typical Western diet, we tend to consume more omega-6 fatty acids relative to omega-3 fatty acids. The ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids has been shown to influence the development of neurotransm ...

As you pointed out, one culprit may well be Omega-6’s. Most of us have far too much omega 6 and too little omega 3’s. Since the two do compete, it is entirely possible that a person could consume adequate omega 3 and yet derive very little benefit due to an imbalance in omega 3 to omega 6 consumption.

You are getting an excess amount of bad omega’s. This can be related to peanut allergies.
About a ago, I was trying different changes to diet. I started eating trail mix which was mostly peanuts, and other nuts. I was also take Omega 3/6/9 supplements.
From what I read, the combination of the good Omega’s (3/6/9) and promoted the keeping of the bad omega’s from the peanuts, which produced what you describe.
So I immediately stopped both (I do occasionally still take Omega 3/6/9 s),
it took a few weeks to clear up. I found that rubbing alcohol helped to speed things up.

Re: where does the extra oil go?
by Telman 14 y
If you want to follow the omega 3 advice then it is best to get it from fish oils. It is also available from vegetable sources but these also contain omega 6. Research would indicate that omega 6 is difficult for the body to break down and in doing so it inhibits the absorption of omega 3. Some reports indicate that only only a few percent of omega 3 from flax oil is metabolised. Too much of this oil and you will get loose stools.

Try eating lots of omega 3 and stay away from omega 6 because they compete in body. Omega 6 is in almost all delicious food and refined vegetable oil and is really basically the one thing that makes people fat because it has drug affect that increases appetite like crazy. Omega 3 has what brain needs the most and suppresses the appetite. Try cooking with organic virgin cocanut oil or olive oil or don’t use oil with cooking at all. Research why omega 3 is important.

Essential Fatty Acids Fall into two main groups, the Omega-3 alpha linoleic-acid and the Omega-6 linoleic-acid. There are other fatty-acids, but we will discuss the Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty-acids. These are the essential fatty-acids.
The reason linoleic (Omega-6) and alpha-linoleic-acid (Omega-3) fatty acids are essential is because the body can not synthesize them from other fatty acids, so we must get them from the food we eat in order to have good health.

The journal estimates an almost 100,000 people died each year due to Omega-3 deficiency while many more suffer devastating heart attacks, strokes and cognitive damages as a result. In the Nutrition Journal, another study provides evidence that men with the highest levels of the Omega-3 fat have lowered risk of developing heart diseases. Grass fed beef has omega 3/6 ratios at 1:2, while grain fed beef has ratios of 1:4. Given that grass fed beef is more natural, can we not assume that their omega 3/6 balance is optimal at 1:2?
I understand that hemp oil has omega-3/6 ratios of 1:3. Wouldn’t it me more optimal to reach a 1:2 ratio, especially since some people consume more omega-6s from various and/or unexpected sources at times? A typical American diet of omega-3/6 is 1:14 to 1:25 according to the University of Maryland Medical Center Web site.

Hi everyone,
I’m just about to buy a juicer and had actually already decided on the Omega 8006, when I saw that Omega recently introduced a new juicer, the Omega Vert.
advantages of Omega 8006 over Omega Vert are:
- Faster Clean-Up
- Multifunctional: You can make butters, pasta, etc, which you cannot with the Vert
- Time-Tested
advantages of the Vert over the 8006:
- Higher Yield
- The juicing process is faster
- Produce doesn’t have to be cut into as small pieces as in the case of 8006
Here’s a video comparing those 2 juicers:

By the way, I’m getting really confused as to whether i should get flax seed oil or black currant seed oil or perhaps both. Apparently having a 2:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 is ideal. However, given most people’s diet nowadays, there’s a lot more omega-6 to omega-3 consumed. So, do you think consuming flax seed oil is better because there’s a high omega-3 to omega-6 ratio to balance the already high amount of omega-6 consumed?

But what quantities it is safe to take Omega 3 and 6 oils to reduce my eczema itching and iflamation?
From what I read on line, the ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 oils in our diet should be 1:2, but we usually have 1:40. Does it make sence to take as a supplement only Omega 3 oil (like fish oil) to make up the difference?
How is the best to take Omega oils, with food or without?
