Hello Adelino
I am interested to know your experience with Melasma and synthetic hormones. What do you know that could help me?... please! I have posted my bad experience with melasma treatments (see my message under ”melasma & cooper” subject). In couple weeks I will be checking my adrenal glands and cooper levels to see if my melasma is related to this gland or even cooper intake.
Regarding to Tri-Luma experience, well... maybe it will work for ”AAAsmom” in her case she just had a baby, and if she did NOT had melasma before she had the baby, I think she has a good chance that her ...

For advice on curing melasma
by AliceFeng 11 y
For all melasma sufferers follow twitter page ’be melasmafree’ and facebook page ’life without melasma’. Both are providing advice on how to effectively treat melasma. They will answer any questions you might have and provide advice on the best cure. You can also download a free melasma cure guide.
I’m pushing this because I had melasma and they finally helped me cure it. It still hasn’t come back and I know there are a lot of treatments out there that don’t actually do anything.

How I got rid of my 18 year old melasma!
by simplebeauty 8 y
The simplest things for hyperpigmentation work the best. This is my story.
I had melasma for 18 years and tried all kinds of treatments & concoctions. As a melasma suffer we all used HQ, unfortunately my melasma came back with a vengeance once I stopped. HQ is not the answer. I had laser therapy and skin peels. Well! The pigmentation just moves from one area to another and in some areas darkened even more. I promised myself I would not use hydroquinone again or harsh chemicals again. At this point I almost gave up trying.
Last year I was one of the volunteers for a Melasma program. To t ...

Hi,
I’m 46, and for more than 5 years I have been struggling with melasma. Started with a little dark spot on my cheeks and now I have it all over my face. I don’t smoke or drink, a practice yoga 3 times a weak, eat a good diet and I have never taken birth control pills or had kids. Two years ago I had a copper IUD removed which I used for 7 years. I don’t know if copper is related to melasma problem but since the melasma started approximately the time when I had the IUD, I asked my doctor to check the copper level in my system.

I’m 37 and started developing melasma a few years back. My mom and sister have it as well. I had not been on hormonal birth control for 10 years. I had always tanned and believe this plus age/heredity were the reasons for my melasma. In the short 3 months that I had the merina....it wrecked havoc on my body. My melasma darkened and became more prominent. I am 3 months post removal and still suffering from side-effects (major hair loss and muscle aches the worst) but the melasma has faded. So, yes.......I do believe that it made it worse. I know that birth control (hormonal) always ...

I developed melasma on my upper lip from the birth control pill (try cyclen) which resolved and faded after i went off that pill.
Later, I had a mirena put in. At that point, I started to slowly develop melasma on my forehead. First a small blotch then a huge one which now covers about 80 percent of my forehead area. I also started developing it around my mouth and on my upper cheeks.

Re: problem with skin - melasma on face

Check out the various ’web definitions’ I’ve pasted below.
We see that melasma typically is associated with pregnancy, the use of oral contraceptives and/or hormone replacement therapy. This is attributed to the hormonal increase in the number of cells which create/release the pigment melanin (or an increase in the production of melanin). If she’s not pregnant and not using oral contraceptives (or injections or patches) or HRT (as many with melasma are not), then there are other causes reported...such as stress; free radicals causing inflammation (this type of ’infla ...

I’ve been taking follic acid as one of my regular supplements for about two years or so, now. A couple of years ago, I ran into a friend who had had bad melasma patches on her nose and cheeks. They’d cleared completely and she told me her doctor had put her on follic acid. She also remarked that my melasma had started to clear.
Two years later, my melasma has gone. Try it. It’s harmless, it works for a number of different other conditions and it will cure your skin problems.

Melasma - dermabrasion?!
by mariechen 13 y
hello there!
I’ve batteling with Melasma for 3 years now - tried pycnogenol, vit a, ashwagandha root, zinc, msm,... etc etc. I even tried hydriquinone... nothing works.
now I’ve read that dermabrasion (not laser - too hot for melasma, not microdermabrasion, not chemical peelings, but dermabrasion) would cure (!) over 95% of Melasmas... (study of dr kunachak - you can find it on the internet easily)
I know that dermabrasion is a deep impact, but I am so unhappy with my ”dirty” face...
has anyone of you did a dermabrasion???
thanks and nice greetings!

I think I did develop melasma from the Mirena. I talked to my doctor about it, and she said that you are more likely to develop this condition from pregnancy or oral contraceptives, but she couldn’t rule out the IUD as the cause. Of course, she also said that as women age, their hormone levels change and my melasma could simply be the result of aging (super, since I’m 34). I am about 3 months post removal (due to problems far greater than melasma), and the dark spots on my forehead and cheeks appear to be slowly fading, but I am diligent with the sunscreen and exposed to the sun less du ...

I saw your post about melasma and was wondering if your liver flushes have helped the condition. I have melasma on my cheeks and my naturopath says that it is because I used to take birth control pills and they caused abnormalities in my liver and this was the cause. I stopped the birth control pills 2-1/2 years ago, and the melasma remains. I have not done any liver flushes yet but am treating yeast and parasites and doing some mild liver cleansing to prepare for the flushes. What kind of results have you seen from the liver flushes?

This facial pigmentation (melasma) can have a heredity factor.
Some individuals are more prone to melasma from free radical damage to the skin leading to over production on skin melanin.
Hormones can also play a role in melasma formation. More specifically estrogen, progesterone and melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH). An example is ”mask of pregnancy”, which normally develops during pregnancy, but can also occur is the absence of pregnancy. I ran in to a friend of mine from high school about 15 years ago who has the mask of pregnancy, but was unable to get pregnant. She had some ovar ...

How to Get Rid of Melasma
Since the skin is one of the most exposed organs in the body, it is richly supplied with sebaceous glands and melanocytes which protect the skin from various problems. However, sometimes the skin may suffer from certain skin disorders owing to fluctuations in the hormonal levels and also the external environment. Melasma affects both men and women, but is more prevalent in women than men. Melasma is a skin problem that causes skin discoloration of the fac ...
