Hi ! I would like to know if One can alternate magnesium taurate and magnesium citrate ? You see back in March , my dad started taking magnesium citrate for his asthma and constipation... Then he stumbled on an article somewhere in Google about magnesium taurate being helpful to treat depression so we ordered some magnesium taurate...he has been taking it for a week but he noticed that his bowel movements have been strained...so he wants to know if it’s safe to alternate dosages of magnesium citrate and magnesium taurate? All I can comment on is your magnesium citrate question.
I just did my liver flush using magnesium citrate - Natural Factors flavoured powder. I did the morning liver flush, as I read on Curezone, and used 7 scoops (150 mg/scoop) per drink as follows:
7 am: 750 mg of magnesium citrate in 2-3 glasses of water
9 am: 1/2 cup olive oil with freshly squeezed citrus juice
1 pm: 750 mg of magnesium citrate in 2-3 glasses of water
3 pm: 750 mg of magnesium citrate in 2-3 glasses of water
By 3 pm or so, I started getting hundreds of stones, and that went on through the night. It w ...

Do you remember how much magnesium citrate you were taking, or how much elemental magnesium?
My experience with magnesium citrate (ignoring candida) was quite different from transdermal magnesium. I didn’t feel any positives on the citrate, except perhaps more energy. Maybe magnesium citrate isn’t very bioavailable? Or perhaps my gut candida is so aggressive it mops up all the free magnesium ions? I read somewhere that to absorb oral magnesium it must travel slowly through the gut, because it is absorbed very slowly. Maybe magnesium citrate (a laxative) does not allow enough time f ...

Helpful hint to finding Elemental Magnesium
by prettysoulful 18 y
One of the best ways to distinguish if the amount on a supplement is based on the whole Mg salt content or elemental content of Mg is in the phrasing:
Whole Mg salt(such as citrate, malate, oxide, etc) content:
Magnesium Citrate .......... 200mg
or
Magnesium (’as’ Magnesium Citrate) ...... 200mg
Elemental Mg content:
Magnesium(’from’ Magnesium Citrate) ..... 200mg
or
Magnesium(Magnesium Citrate) ....... 200mg (This form can also be used for salts)
Some bottles will actually state ’elemental’ magnesium, but this is quite rare. If in doubt, try to contact the ma ...

You’re confusing magnesium citrate with magnesium nitrate!!
Never take magnesium nitrate, it’s an agricultural chemical used in fertilizer.
Here is a link on the differences between the two:

I have taken magnesium citrate for many months. I take it once a day at bedtime. It does help with bowel movements although it doesn’t seem like a laxative. It all depends on how much you take.

The reason why no one answers is because no one has experience /or no one knows what concentration of Magnesium Citrate you got.
Not many people use Magnesium Citrate because some people think that the best way to flush is to follow Hulda’s guidelines.
Also, I doubdt that Magnesium Citrate is as good cholagogue as Magnesium Sulfate. (ie, I doubdt it causes bile production and excretion as much as Magnesium Sulfate.)
If you have liquid Magnesium Citrate, you can take 1/2 cup of it at 6pm and 1/2 cup at 8pm and if that doesn’t cause diarrhoea, take the same amount at 6am and at 8 ...

I read that in the Coke Flush you use Magnesium Citrate. Does the Magnesium Citrate do the same thing as ES? I didn’t have a problem with the OO or lemon juice in my 1st flush, but the ES was almost traumatizing to me. I’ve never tasted anything so disgusting in my life. Does the Magnesium Citrate taste as bad as the ES? How do you take Magnesium Citrate? Magnesium differences
by Lapis 21 y
Sulfate indicates the carrier molecule that the magnesium is bonded to. Magnesium can be bonded to other carrier molecules as well such as magnesium citrate, magnesium chloride, etc. Magnesium chloride or magnesium citrate may two of the better ways to get magnesium to cross the gut membrane into the blood so it can be utilized systemically. Magnesium sulfate tends to remain in the gut with much less crossover.

The brand I take is only for Scandinavia. But the ingredients are magnesium citrate, magnesium malate and magnesium lactate, + silicon dioxide. In a gelatine capsule.
Try taking magnesium citrate / malate with vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and little borax, cosmetical grade. This is one of very few supplements I can take even right before bedtime without food, never any irritation.
Magnesium ascorbate is an option of course. Took me long time to find out of magnesium :-)

Two things that will get the bowels moving quickly:
Magnesium -- you can use milk of magnesium, cheap magnesium oxide supplements and take several with water 3-4 times a day or you can try a bottle of magnesium citrate. Magnesium citrate works quickly but does cause cramping.
Vitamin C -- cheap ascorbic acid 2-3 grams every 30 minutes until you can go. I’d recommend pills, not the powder unless you have empty capsules.
Hope you’re feeling better soon!

My first few flushes I used magnesium citrate powder. It’s sort of chalky tasting, but much easier to get down than epsom. You may have to call around to a few places before you find it, many places don’t carry it (or you could try the liquid mag citrate...all pharmacies carry that. I’ve never tried it in liquid, but if you search magnesium citrate, you’ll find some posts of people who have).
The powder worked well for me. Epsom or mag citrate are both good laxatives, but I read somewhere here that epsom dilates the bile ducts and magnesium citrate doesn’t?

I can see why that might seem slightly strange to some people (including me!). My understanding is that the magnesium citrate has 2 functions:

Looking through the archives folks tend to use magnesium citrate as direct substitute for the Epsom salts. It is taken at the same time as the Epsom salts. If it’s in powder form the same quantity of 1 tablespoon and if it’s in liquid form they recommend 5oz at a time which is usually half a bottle.
They are many variations to this recommendation but it is a good starting position to find out how your body will react to the magnesium citrate.

This has been posted before, but might be worth repeating.
For those of you struggling with Epsom Salts (Magnesiun Sulfate), Magnesium Citrate is a great alternative. I have done 18 flushes and used ES for the first few, then switched over to Magnesium Citrate, 600 mg for each of the four servings. I find it tastes way better ( particularly if you add a little grapefruit juice to the water) and is a little easier on my system, yet does the same job as ES.

The only problem I see with the recipe that Telman posted is that it doesn’t say how long you should wait before taking the magnesium citrate. I would try to give it at least four hours.
