Lugol's vs Iodoral? Pros and Cons of Each?

Could anyone who has purchased and consumed both Lugol’s Iodine Solution and Iodoral inform me of 1) Which they prefer to use/are currently using and 2) The Pros and Cons of each product.
From what I have heard Iodoral is not absorbed as well but is less irritating to the stomach?
Are their any other differences?
For example, is Iodoral’s safer to consume orally; while Lugol’s Solution is meant to be applied topically?

I dabble for awhile a few years ago and fell off the wagon.
Committedly since early Feb 2010.
dosage has varied
100mg Iodoral
several to more drops of sski
50mg Iodoral and 30 or more drops sski applied dermally
50mg Iodoral and 3-12 drops sski internally
past few weeks: 150mg Iodoral
still playing and figuring out what works
always salt pushing and always taking companions

Thanks Gina, I have lugos and I have Trappers , if I was to replace iodoral how much lugos or sski would i take is it per drop? I still have not wrapped my total brain around the sski and how i should use it while on iodoral,
JUST cant seem to get brain working I so appreciate you, sometimes i need it spelled out, drops , two or 3? would i stop Iodoral for two days and replace with that or add to the iodoral, so forgive me for not getting it, I will read and re read,,,, smiles LINDA

Hi Dave,
I am presently doing the Iodoral’s (4 tablets, as of this morning) and Lugol’s (15 horizontal drops & 2 vertical drops, as of last night). I have not, thus far, seen a difference in either one. I will continue this way though, so as to get 2 doses a day. I am doing the IP6, in the am, and to keep the length time apart the Iodoral’s is easier for me in morning cause if I get up late, I can take the pills along to work.

I m taking Iodine for a different reason (Candida) but i can answer. I think Iodoral (Iodine capsules) have more benefits than lugols. In my case, i need high shot of iodine/iodide to get an effect. I have a die’off effect at 100mg if i take a lugol solution and 60mg if i take iodoral tables. I don*t know why but iodoral is more efficient on my body. After this intake i have my nose sneezing and blast of dead filaments that float in my eyes.
Furthermore, with iodoral, it is easier to really quantify your intake because iodoral 12.9mg is a real standardized iodide/iodine amount in tablet ...

Just to tell you. I switch bottle to use a bottle with a real medical dropper. The drops are now bigger than before. So now, my 15 lugol drops are stronger than before and i think it equals the iodoral tablets. It is due to the dropper. Now i have a real medical iodine dropper.
Iodoral tablets and lugol have a different effect. I definitely witnessed that iodoral effect is delayed and stronger at the beginning.
Nevertheless, i want to point an issue. For a long term therapy iodoral is pricey compared to lugol.

please help me. I am taking 6.25mg of iodoral(5 weeks now) and now I am about to lose all my hair. I started taking iodoral for hairloss and other thyroid symptoms. anyway, I do take all the supplements like magnesium taurate,selenium(semc) and potassium. also use celtic sea salt in my water. I cut back on the iodoral because the hairloss is so significant. I no longer have mercury fillings, I do not drink fluoride water and never use chemicals in my hair. I feel like the odd ball with iodoral. please help me. BTW, I have not taken my iodoral today in hopes that someone could help me.

I can’t be sure this is the same, but I also can’t take Lugol’s because it upsets my stomach. (At the same time it makes me ravenously hungry.) Because Lugol’s affects some people this way, the iodine docs formulated Iodoral to be absorbed later, I believe in the small intestine. Each of the smaller Iodoral is 12.5 mg of iodine/iodide, equal to 2 drops of Lugol’s. There is also a large tablet of Iodoral equal to 50 mg. I had gotten myself to around 18-21mg of Prolamine Iodine, before I switched to Iodoral. Then began on iodoral @ 25mg for one week and the next week skipped to 50 mg (I have been on this dosage for about 2.5 weeks). Ironically, I have had less side effects from Iodoral than I did Prolamine Iodine @ much lower dosages (although I have seen others on this forum and on Iodoral reviews on Amazon attest to the same thing).
The most discomfort I have had on the Iodoral thus far was constant sneezing and a runny nose (when I upped my dosage to 50mg), but, that went away after about a week.

I take 4000 iu of Vitamin D daily and have done so for quite a few months.
I also take iodine in the form of iodoral atm, 4 tablets per day worked up slowly (start on 1 tablet per day for a couple of weeks, and work up) because of detox reactions.

Just a few questions if you don’t mind:
Is there any benefit to using Iodo-Caps (same ingredients as Iodoral but in CAPSULE form) over Iodoral if we have a history of not absorbing nutrients that well? Or is there no benefit in absorption between the two?
I ask because I read on some other site that somebody was CHEWING their Iodoral so taht the stomach would digest better.. then mentioned that they wished Iodoral was in capsule form so they wouldn’t have to do that.

Trap, what is significant about the itchy reaction is its one location. Something seems trapped there, like you said, your circulation isn’t efficient enough in that area to clean up die-off debris.
In my observations, Iodoral gets absorbed differently and more efficiently than Lugol’s. I don’t know how that is possible but we’ve heard too many stories confirming how Iodoral gets absorbed more, regardless of the published equivalency of dosage. Iodoral is supposed to be Lugol’s in a tablet but to me it is ”Lugol’s Plus”. Like you said, your response isn’t dose-related with Iodoral.

Has anyone on Iodoral ever developed a sudden sensitivity to dark chocolate?
In my 4TH month of one Iodoral per day I suddenly became unable to tolerate my usual square of dark chocolate after dinner each night. It makes me feel jittery. That never happened before. I stopped Iodoral, did salt loading for one days, and then after two days went back on half the dose of Iodoral for two days. Now I have resumed 1 Iodoral per day. I am currently on 50 mg Iodoral a day.
No headaches, a few itchy pimples here and there, coming up one by one every three-four days.
Since I reached the 50 mg/day level I have stopped taking my Iodoral for two days twice. 2 week-ends when I forgot to take the bottle with me.
On both occasions I had a flare-up of pimples on my breasts and arms/hips on the second day of no Iodoral. But no more extra pimples showing up when I started taking my Iodoral again.
I also lost 2lbs both times, on the same day as the pimple flare.

I had trouble going from 50mg Iodoral to 100mg Iodoral (Migraines), but I was able to easily jump to 240mg SSKI2% (Trapper’s) + 50mg Iodoral and am now a week later on 470mg SSKI2% + 50mg Iodoral. For me, I did hit a ceiling at which my body couldn’t handle the elemental as well. However, trying to drop the Iodoral completely didn’t work well for me either. But it’s possible I’m not waiting long enough after the SSKI2% for eating and thus any bit of vitamin C intake I’m getting is converting the 2% Iodine to Iodide.

I’ve taken both at the same time (KI pills + Iodoral) because I found it easier to control mood swings and detox reactions. KI is much more gentler to the detox organs, hence you can take more and get benefits. Iodoral alone can bring you to a very dark place whilst KI alone tends to excite me too much.
For instance I’ve played with 80mg KI + 12,5 Iodoral. Or 30 mg KI + 12,5 Iodoral.

You won’t need SSKI. Either Lugols 5% liquid or Iodoral Capsules. SSKI is potassium Iodide only, and your body requires both potassium iodide AND iodine which is contained in Lugols & Iodoral.
I suggest taking the Vitamin C & magnesium in the evening, will help you sleep and the rest in the morning.
I take 50mg Iodoral Capsules each day for my Prostate & thyroid. ( with co-supplements )

Besides taking Iodoral and selenium can I put some Lugol’s 5% iodine in the perineal area and dry for 5 minutes then dab some DMSO on the iodine? Would the DMSO carry the iodine from perinium to the enlarged prostate? Would this shrink enlarged prostate if used every day? Would the Iodoral and selenium shrink enlarged prostate (BPH)? Would the Iodoral kill good flora in the intestines?

I took vitamins in the morning around 8ish, tried to take the charcoal right around 10ish and ate at noonish (so the 2 hr time window on each side). I was on Iodoral only in the beginning but then added SSKI and it still seemed to not affect Iodine intake either way (Iodoral is slow release and SSKI is not). I only felt I needed it for a week or two if I recall. Then the detox was over enough and I was able to do 500mg SSKI + 50mg Iodoral just fine.

Hey mumnz, I’ve always had dry skin as well (cracking, bleeding, etc..). I started at 50mg Iodoral about 5 weeks ago. 2 weeks in added ~240mg of SSKI in addition to the 50mg Iodoral. About 3.5 weeks in I was at ~500mg SSKI + 50mg Iodoral. That’s the point that I noticed my hands weren’t cracked any more. They are still dry, but they look better than they have in years.

I didn’t have any detox symptoms, because I titrated so very slooowly from 1/2mg Lugols to 50mg iodoral over 6 months.
However I recently had a few pimples show up on my chest when I added 800mg SSKI to my 50mg iodoral. Iodoral is for my prostate & SSKI is for my lungs.

later in the morning i take Vitamin D and flaxseed-oil.
and in the afternoon i usually take another magnesium.
How many hours do u have between vitamin C and Iodoral intake? I kinda thought they all have to be taken together to work properly.

Iodoral is Lugol’s in tablet form. One iodoral tablet = 2 drops Lugol’s. There is conjecture that perhaps the iodoral is better absorbed...
Lugol’s is a heckofalot cheaper.

I’m not really clear on your question but...Lugol’s & Iodoral are the same thing. same ratios of iodine/iodide. Iodoral is Lugol’s in tablet form. 1 iodoral(12.5 mg.)= 2 drops Lugol’s(6.25 mg. per). :)

Hi there, it looks like the ingredients are the same. On Iodo-Caps, it says 5mg Iodine (from Free Iodine) and 7.5 mg Iodide (from Potassium Iodide).
Iodoral says 5mg Iodine and 7.5mg Iodide (as Potassium salt).
Are potassium iodide and potassium salt the same thing? Does Iodoral use Free Iodine as their source of Iodine?
I just bought Iodo Caps so I want to make sure i’m taking the equivalent of Iodoral.

Well I at 100 iodoral a day , I am wondering how to know when to or if i can take it up , I am feeling pritty crappy still in the morning, I got back my most iodione loading test and till i can go over with practionaire it looks like there are minor changes, Back is starting to inch, that had gone away once I started taking iodoral, still taking all the suggested supplements, what is the highest dose of iodoral anyone has taken,,

I continued to have stomach pain on right side even with iodoral and I was hopeful when I started it this would go away as so many people have eliminated that issue by use of iodoral. Anyhow, if it is something that is still problematic using Iodoral then I do suggest taking with coconut oil or some sort of fat, it really does work to side step the pain issue. =) I’m always in dire need of heavy probiotics due to some surgeries early in life on my stomach so it’s possible again that other people don’t need what works for me.

What you say doesn’t indicate whether the person took 3-4000 mg of Vitamin C daily...since that amount is considered to be a lot to the ’common variety’ healthy persons, it’s possible enough wasn’t taken for proper absorbtion. (?) What do we know there?
Also, Iodoral is made from Lugol’s. I’ve seen the Iodoral ’recipe’ and there’s absolutely nothing in it that would help absorbtion...nothing. The only thing Iodoral helps, is padding the pocket of those that created/trademarked it.

as for iodoral, it is different. much of that iodine gets released in the small intestines. we have noticed several little differences in action between the two. lugols liquid seems to be superior in every way.
i dont have any iodoral handy or would do what i should have done a long time ago - put one in water and see how it dissolves. i cant even say if you get all the iodine in iodoral or not.
iodoral was invented for the docs so they could deliver precise amounts to their patients. this with the added benefit that it doesnt upse ...

sorry for the reference to ”faux news”, but i couldnt resist.
having no idea what the actual mechanism is, i have found out the ”cause” of the intense itching on my right arm. it is iodoral. there is no doubt that without it the itching stops and with it the itching commences in earnest.
i still take lugols in varying amounts. the itching only happens when i take iodoral. this does not seem to be dose sensitive, either. it happens if i take a little iodoral or a lot and happens regardless of whether i take a lot of lugols or a little. i am now discontinuing iodoral and fully ex ...

Okay....Ive ordered the Kenmore water distiller and plan on drinking 64 ozs a day of clean distilled water along with taking 2 Iodoral pills per day for the 1st week and then going to 3 pills per day the next week and 4 a day the next week....
Along with this, I should also be taking :
1,000 or more mgs of ester c a day...200 mcgs of selenium.....does that sound correct { I weigh 240 lbs and am relaitively healthy...and dont take any medications }
Should I quit taking a multivitamin and calcium/magneisum pills when taking the Iodoral ?
Also, should the Iodoral be taken with a m ...

Iodoral and Bleeding Gums Testimonal

I just wanted to add a short testimonial for Iodoral and bleeding gums.
I go for a cleaning every three months. My last cleaning was in September. When I went yesterday, 3 mos later, both my dentist and hygienist were amazed at how much better my gums looked and how little bleeding there was.
I have to attibute this to my taking of one Iodoral per day. Sometimes when I remember I also rinse my mouth out with diluted Cayce’s iodine in water but mostly it is the Iodoral as I am very strict about taking it.
I had worked my way up to 3-4 Iodoral per day but find I feel better on less ...
