Why is Blastocystis hominis so controversial regarding pathogenicity?
What we currently call Blastocystis hominis (morphologically) appears to be approximately 10 different strains or species, some of which are pathogenic and some are nonpathogenic. Based on continuing molecular studies, changes in the classification of this group are probable. If all strains or species currently make up what is called “Blastocystis hominis” – this could explain the controversy regarding pathogenicity and the fact that some patients are symptomatic, while some are asymptomatic. Unfortunately, all o ...

You could try using the above but rest assured that if it is b hominis then it probably would have no effect. But I think it would be worth a try, the 1st 2 would be more of a chance than the clark. b. hominis are highly resistant bugs and there is no set protocol outside of badbugs.org info even with that there are many combinations that you might have to try.
When you get to this point let me know, I can send you a list of proven therapies against b hominis.

Is Blastocystis hominis the cause of my symptoms?
It is hard to be sure, and experts disagree on this point. Whether or not B. hominis is the primary cause of your symptoms is unknown. Some types of B. hominis may be more likely to be associated with symptoms. Finding Blastocystis in stool samples should be followed up with a careful search for other possible causes of your symptoms.
Symptoms may be caused by infection with other parasitic organisms, bacteria, or viruses. Often, B. hominis is found along with other such organisms that are more likely to be ...

To all those who seem to suffer from Blastocystic Hominis parasite - there is an excellent web site called badbugs as follows. May be an idea to first check you don’t suffer from Helicobacter pylori as I did. It is very dangerous if left undetected by endoscopy, and left untreated. The antibiotics for the h.pylori seem to have worked for the b.hominis also. Time will tell. Meanwhile, Jackie Delaney has the cure for blastocystic hominis on her site http://www.badbugs.org

Candida-like symptoms can occur from Blastocystis Hominis infections, which is a bacteria, not a yeast. (maybe some of us here have it instead or in addition to candida). Apparently people with it, or with another bacteria problem called D. I’m trying to understand why some of us are infested with parasites and why some (supposedly) easily eradicated bugs are so infuriatingly hard to dispose of.
B. hominis is one suspect and I’d like to hear from anyone that has actually tested positive for it.
Another theory is that liver function and low stomach acid could be what opens the door to parasitic infections. Flukes maybe?
Why is it that some of us are infested with (as an example) pinworms but our partners have no symptoms and appear to be immune.

I’m afraid the answer to your question is about the failings of the medical community. Its obvious to anyone schooled in the sciences after a review of the recent literature that some subtypes of B. Hominis ARE pathogenic. So why do almost 100% of GPs, GI and Infectious specialists reject even considering the possibility.
Most doctors were educated before B. hominis subtypes and pathogenesis was even discovered. Very few actually do research based on sick patients. They just forward them to a specialist. The GI specialist declares its IBS and wash their hands.

B. Hominis - this bug may be a real problem for some of us
by sanjean 14 y
badbugs.org says....
It might be speculated that B.hominis downregulates the host immune responses in the early phase of the infection, in order to improve its survival. This seems to be a common evasion mechanism of parasites, as it has also been demonstrated for Toxoplasma gondii (Denney et al. 1999). Further it may also be expected that this effect of B.hominis could indirectly facilitate the progress of infection by other opportunistic pathogens. The results presented here indicate that B.hominis is able to induce and modulate the production of inflammatory cytokines in intestinal e ...

Yes, this stuff is always complex.
I have had a past acute infection with E hiso, which is quite different from B hominis. But, I have occasional problems with B hominis. There are also other parasites of unknown origin that infect like B hominis, but are not always suitable for human (or animal) hosts, therefore will pass through the bowel causing digestive upset. This goes for bacteria, fungi, and viruses and even toxic proteins etc.
Some people can have more than 6 different diseases going on at the same time (PROBABLY MORE).

Beneficial e coli (bec) is not to be confused with the pathogenic strain. bec is the predominant probiotic in the colon and is absolute for the other probiotic strains to take hold. They produce many chemicals which protect the colon from bad bacteria and probably yeast/fungus. If you have low levels of bec, you are probably sick, that is how important bec is.
