Diverticulitis diet: Foods to eat and foods to avoid
by samarawilson 8 y
Diverticulitis is a condition characterized by inflamed or ruptured diverticula, which are bulging sacs in the lining of the large intestine. Picking the right foods to eat and steering clear of certain foods to avoid is important for effective management of diverticulitis symptoms.
Mild diverticulitis can be easily treated with a proper diet. However, in cases of recurring and severe diverticulitis, surgery may be required.

Diverticulitis and the impact of alcohol
by Mel34 8 y
Diverticulitis affects the way a person tolerates alcohol, while alcohol consumption can lead to complications of diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is a condition characterized by inflamed or ruptured diverticula, which are bulging sacs in the lining of the large intestine.
In general, alcohol negatively impacts even healthy individuals, but for someone with diverticulitis, the effects of alcohol may be greater and much worse.

Re: Can this pain be caused by gallbladder?
by telman 16 y
Your may want to investigate diverticulitis which often presents as low abdominal grinding crampy pain. You can type diverticulitis into a search engine and start reading.
Diverticulitis occurs when small pouches bulge out from weak points in the intestines, forming ’diverticula’, which then become infected or inflamed. It is sometime described as being similar to a balloon of air bulging out of a bicycle tire.
The pouches alone, without any infection or inflammation are quite common, and if you have just the pouches then you suffer from diverticulosis.
If you have the pouches plu ...

Ok - and last question.
You said something like plain greek yogurt would be ok.
But I’ve read from a few websites that dairy is no good for diverticulitis.
What do ya think?
Probiotic sources such as Greek yogurt are beneficial for diverticulitis. Probiotics help to keep infection and inflammation down in diverticulitis.

Re: Will coffee enema help for diverticulis?
by DeadPoets 13 y
I’m in this boat right now too.
I’m not sure coffee enemas are helping.
I think ANY pressure in the colon or small intestine can spread diverticulitis.
1) It can cause more diverticuli from pressure
2) It will clean out healthy bacteria and the infection can continue to dominate
JMO I may be wrong
I have Lyme and Diverticulitis.
I love Coffee Enemas but I’ve had to stop them out of fear

Re: Hawthorn Berry vs Colitis
by Hveragerthi 13 y
Why do they say not to talk Hawthorn Berry if you have colitis?
I have inflammation of my gut (diverticulitis, Lyme, Bartonella)...
But I don’t see why I shouldn’t Hawthorn?
Hawthorn berry is actually used in formulations to treat colitis due to the anti-inflammatory properties. But tiny seeds can irritate some inflammatory bowel disorders such as diverticulitis, which is likely why some are saying to avoid the berries.

Hi #89250,
You said:
”My aunt has diverticulitis and diverticulosis (don’t ask me the difference)”
As I understand, diverticulosis is a condition where you have been diagnosed to have formed pockets in the colon.
Diverticulitis is when one or more of those pockets have become infected and inflamed.
For example, if the appendix becomes inflamed we call that appendicitis.

A question to whoever has had any experience on the subject.
Before the onset of my diverticulitis attack, approximately two weeks ago, I used to work briskly in the mornings, for 5 or 6 miles, and I have kept it up, after being diagnosed with diverticulitis, and noticed that inmediately after , and even during the walk, the pain persisted and even got worst.
I would appreciate your experiences and thoughts

How is your elimination? It could also be that a bowel is backed up, or else it’s diverticulitis. Whatever you do, do not take a laxative! I had the same pain one time, took a laxative and ended up with appendicitis and had to have my appendix taken out! Anyway, have you been checked for diverticulitis? This is where a food seed, such as tomato or strawberry seed, or roughage, gets trapped in a pocket of the (usually) descending colon (descending large intestine) and if it doesn’t work its way loose can create infection requiring antibiotics. On the other hand, it could be from the Difluca ...

Apparently, it can cause sepsis, so I wouldn’t take it lightly if that’s what you have.
Diverticulitis is aggravated by small seeds or other hard particles getting caught in the diverticuli. So pain after eating things with small seeds is a good indicator of diverticulitis.

no, that does not sound like diverticulitis to me. possible urinary tract infection or something else. if i were you i would go to see your ob-gyn and get a thorough examination. the fact that you said you had pain near the ovaries, and the fact that it flared up after sex makes me wonder if it is related to the reproductive organs.
i would get an examination done as soon as possible. if that comes back clean, then i would look into other possibilities like diverticulitis.
