- Making a sauna?

I have built an infrared sauna with 3, 250 watt heat lamps. The enclosure is 3.5’x5’x6.5’. With the lamps I find it is taking too long to heat up and it doesn’t get hot enough, at least I didn’t really sweat after half an hour. I have a few questions if someone could help. Does anyone have any suggestions on building some type of enclosure like a tent or box. I have a tarp that I can use to cover it? How big can this be with the lamps I have? How hot should the enclosure in this type of sauna get for good therapeutic value? ... ... Thanks [End]

I read that if you introduce ozone into a conventional steam sauna the ozone degrades rapidly into oxygen due to the hot ambient air and moisture inside the sauna. So they say it’s useless to do transdermal ozone therapy inside a steam sauna because the ozone degrades and turns back into oxygen before it has a chance to enter the body through the pores of the skin. ... ... Now, if you use a *far infrared* sauna instead, will you be able to avoid this problem since far infrared does not heat the ambient air (or if it does, only slightly)? ... ... You should try using the sauna facing away from the bulbs. You should also check out your liver. You be be sensitive or sore from the detox. Hi DWillow ... ... I am looking into Sauna’s as well and wondered how much the clearlight sauna is [the smaller 2 person]. I did some research and of course everyone says their heater is the best. I did find some information about the carbon heater emitting some type of fumes. I have my eye on the SaunaRay www.saunaray.com They do charge you for shipping, something that most companies don’t but this is the only company that uses Basswood from Canada and the ceramic heater. ... ... Right now with the way the economy is I just don’t want to spend $3,500 for a sauna. [End]

I am just starting to look into buying a fir sauna myself, and was wondering if you ever got an answer to your question about the differences (?) in carbon heaters from different mfrs. Which model did you buy, and are you happy with it? ... Thanks. [End]

I have a FABULOUS infrared sauna, made by Sunlight Saunas. It was recommended by Dr. David Williams, who I highly respect and admire. I am using it for my 87 year old grandmother, who has advanced breast cancer, diagnosed stage 4 in Feb 2009. She uses the Solo Unit every day, for about 40 minutes on level 2(lower) and 7 (upper) - and it is a remarkable therapy. She sweats pretty good, which is important. FYI, we have the SOLO unit. [End]

- FIR use when Rib pain and muscle inflamation?

Is it considered ok to use the FIR sauna heat when one has a rib that is probably out of alignment, and it hurts to breath deep and can’t sleep on the sore rib (right) side as it might pop out again. The chiro recommendation is ice it up. ... I have been doing that, but I keep wondering if my sauna would speed up recovery or worse yet slow it down? ... ... what is the conventional FIR sauna wisdom on this subject? ... ... thanks, ... ... I stay in my sauna anywhere from 30-45 minutes. It usually hovers around 135 degrees if I let it warm up sufficiently. ... ... I cannot stay in the sauna too long if I am not hydrated before, or if I haven’t had a lot of protein to eat that day... then I feel faint and sick, similar to symptoms of heat stroke. ... ... I usually set the sauna to warm up, use my elliptical for about 15-20 minutes, then use my ”jiggly machine” (vibration exercise machine) for 10 minutes, then sit-ups for a few minutes. By then, the sauna is about 125 degrees, and then I sit in it for the remainder of the hour.
