I'm kind of surprised that none of our doctors have thought that this is Actinic Keratosis, which I believe is known as Actinic Cheilitis when on the lips.
This condition is caused by sun damage, and I hear that the sun damage can be accumulated over years. But the pictures look very similar to our condition and this condition is common on the lips.
I wonder if a biopsy would diagnose this, and perhaps that is the reason why our doctors dont think that this is actinic cheilitis.
Anyways, Imiquimod is a good treatment for this so it would make sense.
Has anyone's doctor mention this as a possibility?
Sun damage could definitely be a possibility for me because I am always outside, and worked outside for the entire summer before I got this.

I had already talked about actinic cheilitis while mentioning vermilionectomy done in this kind of cases but she didn't seem to react and none of my derms thinked about it. I think the biopsy would have shown if our lips were also affected more deeply. Then, this cheilitis usually affects 40 years old men or older.
Maybe the picking played a role and the sun lightly damaged this sensitive area superficially.-

Honestly it should be blind to not see that there is a problem with my lips.

Next time I see my derm I will bring this kind of pictures -It's even better in picture than in real observation-.
If nothing works and that it's just a trouble in the superficial layers of the vermilion because of trauma there is surely a way to fix this, damn.

This is a reply to # 1,987,871I think dermatologists might expect an ulcer (cancerous looking) on bottom lip if you have actinic cheiltis. Maybe they are used to seeing the worst cases in medical textbooks.
I know Accutane can cause sun sensitivity and if one has chapped lips from the the drug drying out skin- the sun can easily penetrate through the lips.- Re: Actinic Keratosis/Actinic Cheili... Healing2021

Other Antibiotics like Doxycycline, which I was taking, also cause sun sensitivity. And while using it I was always outside.

This is a reply to # 1,987,989this stuff is more for people that are in there 40's or 50's and have spent most of their lives in the sun like farmers and fisherman. i highly doubt and my derms not just these ones but all the ones i have seen have said this is not a sun/cancerious disease.
in regards to ec maybe it is just from chronic chapped lips that have a break out and start this horrible cycle i mean we all were chapped lip suffers!!! before getting this. and i find it that its only the months leading into ec were most of us started having dry/chapped lips. now i dont know if thats the early start of ec or the sympotms but yeah i just dont know!- Re: Actinic Keratosis/Actinic Cheili... longterm

This is a reply to # 1,988,110I mean even if it's not Actinic Keratosis, it is clearly something similar. It may not be caused by sun damge but the cells seem to be reacting similarly. Most of the pictures I see are also affecting the same area of the lips as us. So perhaps it could at least be treated similarly.

I wasn't either. Yes, I used to use lip products, but I didn't have chapped lips.
Many people have chapped lips. Many people don't have chapped lips. Millions upon millions use chapsticks and other stuff on their lips, others don't. Some people with EC use or have used lip care products, others don't/haven't.
There is no proof that there is any connection between chapped lips and EC or chapsticks/lip products and EC. There might just be no connection at all. And we will probably never know the answer, so I'll stop speculating about it.

This is a reply to # 1,987,871No. Actinic keratosis is a stage of skin cancer. I have EC, and have had a biopsy taken of the worst part. The pathologists found no indication of sun damage or hallmark signs that the sun may have caused carcignogenic changes to my cells.
