I'm happy to report that while listening to a podcast of one of my 2 (wow big number) trusted sources, there has apparently been a recent discovery regarding a form of vitamin B3 that may become another "tool in the toolbox" against candida albicans.
"In the current study, researchers found that niacinamide directly disrupted key Candida reproductive enzymes leading to weaker strains of Candida, an inability to form infectious biofilms, and gross aberrations in the DNA of Candida. This is all good news for humans and bad news for Candida. Niacinamide is virtually free of side effects as long as a total dose does not pass 3,000 mgs per day. Niacinamide is similar to niacin, but does not have any flushing or any ability to lower cholesterol."

I don't know anything more than this. But this is exciting news to me! I guess we can hope.
The other part of this post, undecylenic acid, I'm just throwing out there because I don't hear much talk about it. And I do believe it to be effective. And I would like to be able to obtain some. It is produced from the vaccuum distillation of castor bean oil or I guess from the "cracking" of castor oil. However, I do not believe that you get any by ingesting castor oil. And while I'm on that subject. If there's any one out there in severe need to push alot of stuff out of the GI tract. IMO castor oil is the only way to go. When I was REALLY bad before I started green juices and candida / clean diet, I lost 8 pounds in about 3 hours due to castor oil. Not that I recomend doing this often, I don't. But it's been used for hundreds of years for this purpose and is even used clinicaly today to prep people for surgery.
I'm not a chemist. But to me undecylenic acid has nothing to do with castor oil other it is a chemical derivative of it. Similar to biodesiel vs. corn. If someone smarter than me could clarify or tell me if this line of thinking is correct?

This is a reply to # 1,687,495Undecylenic acid should be easy enough to obtain. Thorne sells it as SF722, and Dr Jeff sells it as Candida Force. (Candida Force = SF722 = undecylenic acid = 10-undecenoic acid.) Worked great for me.
Regarding niacinimide... I just checked my B complex (max stress B) and under Niacin it says "Vitamin B3 as niacinimide." WOO-HOO!! - Re: Niacinamide "potent candida kill... Cheshire77

06/19/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "It has been known in academic circles for sometime that vitamin B3 in the form of niacinamide (non-flushing) is relatively toxic to yeast. A scientist found several years ago and concluded (wrongly) that taking vitamin B3 niacinamide will shorten your life span or longevity, through suppressing the SIR2 silencing gene, which is responsible for longevity.
As a result of this little misinformation, people stopped taking niacinamide and candida and yeast infections skyrocketed. Now the reason for the mistake was relatively simple, the scientist was apparently doing a study on longevity on yeast cells. Apparently in higher animals, fruit flies included, the effect of adding niacinamide resulted in longer life of 15%, as well as human embryo cells.
Therefore, if you have candida, yeast infection, or possibly even a UTI (urinary tract infection), taking niacinamide between 100-500 mg/day could solve this mystery that doctors have a hard time suppressing. In fact, you can expand this idea into applying the use of niacinamide NOT NIACIN, as a means of controlling fungus, since fungus is a relatively close cousin of the yeast also.
This is interesting, since in medicine the two most hardest organism to kill is actually fungus and yeast. It is almost a death sentence if you have this and getting rid of it may mean endless nightmare. Who knows, perhaps dissolving niacinamide with vinegar will be helpful in relieving your toe nail fungus infections.
Therefore a possibility exists from the point of view of biological terrain, candida, yeast and fungus infection is a form of niacinamide deficiency."

Seems this "Ted from Bangkok" is a pretty well informed guy. Note that he wrote this back in 2006, long before this recent research has confirmed his claims.

This is a reply to # 1,687,710I bought my when the last research showed up, but after researching Niacinamide (Nicotinamide) I found it is toxic to the liver. Since I don't know what dose is safe, I haven't taken it. I am also taking antifungals that can cause liver enzymes alterations, so I don't want to add more load to it. But , for sure, it could be interesting to try B3.

This is a reply to # 1,687,746Yes my concern as well. Supposedly a dose at 3000mg/day dose is ok, anything more is "potentially" toxic to the liver. Since most of us very likely have sluggish liver function, I would think the threshold is likely lower and caution is advised here, and maybe placing any stress at all on the liver is a bad idea? who knows. I'm going to give it a try at 500mg/day with meals.

This is a reply to # 1,687,746Although niacinamide can indeed be toxic to the liver, this doesn't necessarily mean it is unsafe to take. A Swedish medical school review of the safety of niacinamide found:
"... at very high doses reversible hepatotoxicity has been reported in animals and humans. Minor abnormalities of liver enzymes can infrequently occur at the doses used for diabetes prevention."

The key points here are that only VERY HIGH doses can cause hepatoxicity, and any damage is REVERSIBLE, so your liver recovers when you stop taking it. What is considered a VERY HIGH dose? Well the above review said the doses used to prevent diabetes (typically 1500-3000mg) only INFREQUENTLY cause MINOR ABNORMALITIES. So I think we can safely assume the dose needed to produce significant hepatoxicty would need to be at least 3000mg/day.
What dose do we need to take to fight Candida? Who knows? I don't think any research has been done. However, Byron Richards says he has been seeing improvement in toenail fungus at a dose of 350mg/day.

Ted from Bangkok (see previous post) suggests 100-500mg/day.
So, as far as liver toxicity is concerned, I see little or no risk at doses up to 500mg, slight risk 1000-3000mg, and significant risk at more than 3000mg. Of course the risk increases if you are taking other medications or supplements that stress the liver. If in doubt I recommend having regular liver enzyme tests. Although niacinamide may not cause any problems for your liver, it is best to be safe than sorry.

Wow, that was something I didn't need to read, though it certainly feels that way to me at times.
Anyway, what dose of niacinamide is best? It just so happens I've been taking a new supplement that has 50 mg. of it. That seems a rather conservative amount.

This is a reply to # 1,687,832I think he was referring to true systemic candidiasis, which you most likely do not have. By systemic, I'm not referring to Candida cases where flare-ups occur at various sites around the body. This isn't really systemic candidiasis, although it may seem like it. I'm referring to the systemic candidiasis normally only seen in severe immune deficient patients (e.g. AIDS) where Candida invades the bloodstream and internal organs.
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that you, and 99% of people using this forum, do not have the "death sentence" type of candidiasis. Mind you, what we have is bad enough!

This is a reply to # 1,687,495After reading this yesterday I bought some "Super Vitamin B complex w/ b-12" from Schiff.
It has niacinamide, 50mg per tablet, as well as many other B's, biotin, pantothenic acid, dicalcium phosphate, d-calcium pantothenate, phosphorus, choline Bitartrate, inositol, paba, & L-Methionine!
Wow, what a suppliment, half off, I paid $8.00. It's yeast free. Anyways, so far I've taken 2 tablets and I can feel the candida melt away quickly in my mouth/tongue. It's not completely gone, but there's a big difference. I just ate some pasta, which should stir up the candida, but instead, my mouth feels protected. The reaction is far lessened. I'm going to take much more after looking up toxicities & see what happens, but the main thing is that SO FAR, the niacimanide sure seems to have made a big difference.-

Looks like the niacinamide has a cumulative effect, occording to what Byron says, and I can feel this happening in my mouth too. I'd like to get ahold of some undicyclenic acid too, but it's not at our huge suppliment store.
It looks like it's very hard to OD on B's so I'm not concerned about ODing on this sup. I looked up the ld50's of all of the ingrediants and I'd have to eat the whole bottle to really do much damage, or just about. Not happening. I'm loading up on this stuff. Thank you Waverly original poster! Keep up the good work. How's the niacin working for your condition?

I once heard a symptom of toxicity described as a "false sense of well being" that is so true! I do have a few benchmarks of health personally that I use to gauge my health. Everything is moving in the right direction so far.

interesting you brought this up, months ago I was using niacin with my itraconazole to give me a strong flush and bring the blood to my sinuses since blood flow is very little to that area, I wanted to get larger amounts of the drug there to kill the aspergillus, I felt it was working then kind of got out of the routine of using it, will start again, think that might of had to do with my progress being the best in that first 3 weeks. I will get some niacinamide as soon as possible!! anyone know how much to take for really bad aspergillus and candida?? i'll take the whole damn bottle :)

This is a reply to # 1,693,882Well I've considered taking a whole bottle of lactoferrin, but with the niacinamide... not really a good idea, I've been doing 500mg every other day for about a couple weeks, and I must say that I feel pretty incredible, very good. That said, it hasn't been long and I've made a number of other changes also so who can say for sure what's made the difference. I plan on reporting back in a few weeks with my progress and exactly what I've been doing, because I've turned around so well. I'm trying not to get too excited, but I'll just say if I improve as much during the next 5 weeks, as I have in the last, I will be very happy, beyond happy.
