i had the mirena put in jan of 08. it's been a little over 7 months now. i have had no children and am 27. i liked the idea of the convenience of not having to remember when i put my nuva ring in and when to take it out. my boyfriend and i are not planning on having children for a few more years, as much as we both want them badly. This is why i chose the mirena.
i've heard of a lot of emotional/psychological side effects, and have experienced NONE of them. which i'm suprised because i have a history of clinical depression. however, i've had a couple of the physical side effects. the break outs and scarring, which i can handle, it's not too bad. but the one that is REALLY bothering me is the cramping. at first it was random, sometimes spotting occured sometimes not. now it seems to be mostly either during the time when i'm ovulating, or during menstration. my periods are very irregular, which i can get over because it's not very often very heavy. (i've also found that intercourse will make the light spotting go away faster). but there are times when the cramping is so severe it's hard to concentrate on ANYthing other than cramping, and no pain killer seems to even EASE it. i've tried different brands of extra strength tylenol, and IB profin. nothing seems to work. i've also been told numerous times that exercising can help ease cramping...however i've found it's just the opposite now. it actually makes it WORSE!!!
is this something that is normally just a side effect that will go away or could it be caused by it not being in place correctly? the dr. told me that some women experience cramping for up to 3 months, but that is rare, and it usually stopps before then. does any one have any advice on how to at least ease the cramps?
