Hi everyone,
This is long, but I could really use some advice :)
Maybe someone can shed some light for me here. I was seeing an ND and she thought that I might have Candida because I took a
food intolerance test and was intolerant to 30 foods, yeast being one of them. (Note: I was not found to be intolerant to sugar). My symptoms include anxiety, OCD, fatigue, skin problems (tiny bumps w/ hard plugs in them on face), depression, cold hands and feet, bloating, occasional constipation, muscle twitching (could be from anxiety), and occasionally I will wake up with a numb extremity. I have been taking supplements for leaky gut, a probiotic, vitamin C, berberine complex, and I took one course of Kolorex (which is an antifungal). I have never had a yeast infection or oral thrush, never been on steroids or birth control, and I have never been pregnant. I have been on
Antibiotics ...but who hasn't? For the past six years, I have not eaten cow dairy, red meat, refined flour, fast food, hydrogenated oils, or refined sugar.
I took a leave of absence from naturopathic med school and have been trying to get things under control before I head back. I have been following an anti-candida diet, but I do eat things like brown rice, buckwheat, green apples, and gluten free/yeast free pancakes that most feel is counterproductive....but I let myself have them once a week. I am down to 98
pounds and I'm 5'3...so I really couldn't go all the way and do a 100% raw foods diet or a juice fast.
I went to my GP and he did some blood work and stool samples. I don't have H. Pylori bacteria, celiac disease, and no
parasites showed up in my stool. Thyroid stim. hormone was normal. My blood
Sugar was low though (54) and I ate brown rice w/ avocado before the test...so it should not have been low.
I have been doing some research on hypoglycemia and there seems to be a connection w/ adrenal fatigue. When your adrenals are stressed, they are unable to pump out enough cortisol. Our body needs cortisol for gluconeogenesis, so if there is not enough, then low blood
Sugar can result. In this past year, my bf broke up with me (something I cried over for 9 months), I started med school, and I moved clear across the country...so I WAS STRESSED. When I eat things like brown rice or the "bad" pancakes, I DO NOT feel worse. I do not get a bad reaction from it....if anything I feel better. This would make sense if I have hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemics NEED carbs (the right carbs of course...not stuff like candy and pop).
I am having a colonoscopy in the next few weeks...mostly for peace of mind, and I am also going to see an endocrinologist. These are not natural docs because I need to see docs that are covered by my insurance. Does anyone have any input for me? Thanks for reading.
PS here is a good link about the connection b/w hypoglycemia and AF:
