Artour Rakhimov, PhD (Biography)

About Dr. Artour Rakhimov (born 21 July 1964)

Artour Rakhimov graduated with Honours from his high school in a small city Tchebarkoul located  in Ural’s mountains, central part of Russia . He passed all exams with the best possible mark. During his high school years, Artour Rakhimov got numerous prizes and awards for winning regional competitions in mathematics, chess and sport orienteering. As one of his hobbies, he completed a musical school (standard 5 year musical education that is still popular in Russia ) and still likes playing classical piano music, including Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky.

After graduation, he entered the Moscow State University and finished its 5-year standard course with Honours (grade “A” for all exams) and became a certified public school teacher. After 3 years of post-graduate study in the Moscow State University , he received PhD in Physics and Mathematics. (The degree was officially accepted in Canada and the United Kingdom .)

He was a winner of numerous competitions, up to national level, in orienteering, ski-orienteering, and cross country skiing. He was also a captain of ski-orienteering varsity team and a member of cross-country skiing varsity team of the Moscow State University , at those times best varsity teams of the USSR .

During his almost professional sport career, Artour Rakhimov learned various ideas and skills from leading Soviet coaches and sport psychologists who trained Olympic and World champions in different disciplines, from track and field athletics and skiing to gymnastics and cycling.  These private meetings helped him to become an individual coach of athletes who became members of Soviet (Russian) and Finnish national teams and took gold and silver medals during World Championships in sport orienteering. For these achievements, in 1992, national Finnish orienteering federation granted him the Coach of the Year award.

He is the author of the publication Developing Endurance. This article practically describes and explains the main stages of preparation of endurance athletes to important contests. The article was published in the Canadian Cross-Country Resource Package and later, after translation into Russian, won Russian national 1998 contest of scientific and methodological sport papers.

During his scientific career, Dr. Rakhimov worked in the Institute of Mechanics of the Moscow State University, Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) and University of Toronto. He developed two published theories in physics. One of them explains the puzzle of the superdeep penetration of particles into metals and alloys, another one unravels numerous mysteries in industrial dynamic pressure synthesis of diamonds and other super-hard materials. He developed an unique process of high pressure synthesis of metallic glasses. He still believes that modifications of this process should lead to synthesis of large artificial diamonds. His articles are published in Journal of Applied Physics and Journal of Materials Science Letters. Later Dr. Rakhimov worked as a high school teacher in private schools in Ontario. His school philosophy is reflected in his articles.

Since 1980’s he had keen interest in health; spirituality; nutrition; physiology of exercise, individual, group and social psychology; sport psychology; psychology of performance; motivation; learning; reasoning; emotions, and creativity, and later in psychology of peace-making, non-violence, and conflict resolution.

Dr. Rakhimov is one of the world’s leading experts on the Buteyko breathing method, a highly successful drug free solution of various problems, ranging from asthma and sleeping problems to chronic fatigue and heart disease. He is the author of a book Normal breathing: the key to vital health (available as a PDF file through www.normalbreathing.com). This book, according to on-site comments of principal Buteyko practitioners, is the most comprehensive book available in English in this area.

Dr. Rakhimov’s interest in drug-free solutions of health problems stems from his mother’s teaching. For many years she was a chief doctor of the largest city hospital, but, in spite of her professional medical background, she always promoted and advocated importance of natural life style factors, like physical exercise, good nutrition, fresh air, proper hygiene, correct posture, and relaxation and dangers of medical drugs.
