Breaking the Fast

Well my friends, it's been an interesting 24 days of fasting.

Went to the market today, bought some extra ripe tomatoes, zucchini and parsley. Chopped everything up into tiny pieces and it's now on the stove. Considered making a vegetable soup from recipes I found on the net, but many contained cabbage, peppers, string beans - stuff I don't really feel like having now. I love boiled zucchini though, so thought it would be best to make a soup out of things I loved.

Once it's done and after it's cooled down considerably, I'll add a nice swoosh of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon. Can't hardly wait.

I've learned a few things in the past few hours about myself and what I can tolerate - and sugar, even that found in fruit, is something my body does not like. I bought freshly squeezed o.j. this morning hoping that it's pulp will get my digestive system going but it was so sweet I couldn't drink it. Ditto for the other juices I got. In fact, I don't want to see sweets for a long time.

And eventhough I planned on fasting for a full 25 days, this dryness in the back of my throat just won't go away no matter how much I drink. Maybe this is the 'true' sensation of hunger? My body, even with an extra 10-15 pounds, may be going into a starvation mode because it's devoid of minerals. Who knows? But one thing's for sure, I just don't have the energy to do this anymore and will limit all future fasts to no more than 20 days.

Because I love the feeling of fasting, I plan on including two fasting days per week to keep my mind clear. Another plan I have is to fast all day and eat only one small meal at night. That small meal will be somewhat rich in nature in order to get all my essential proteins, vitamins and minerals. I'd rather have one really tasty meal with lots of good fats than three 'so-so' meals throughout the day.

I truly believe that it's the quieting of the digestive system that brings us peace during a fast. If I regulate all digestive activity to the evening, that would likely leave me feeling fresh and relaxed during the day. Nice theory, huh? Let's see what happens when I put this all to practice.
