Barbara Tuchman:

Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill.

I love books. If I had all the money in the world, I would invest in books, because the summation of wisdom found from books surpass the experience and intelligence of any human mind. The best reward of books is the education that I receive unfailingly. Often too there is an intimacy I develop with characters or concepts in books, that feed my insatiable craving. I talk of books because I miss the pleasure of good books and only after returning to this haven did I find peace, that I knew something more than I did the day before. And that information may one day benefit me or somebody else. Information is power.

So let me discuss important points about health. Although I am a medical student studying conventional western medicine, I am disheartened to know that this school of medicine is, i feel, "the aid that delays death instead of precenting it"--the reason:sidetrack in treating diseases. Until my eczema, my mindset was fixed on what works--western medicine. My personal search for the truth led me to a priceless lesson that will help me, my family, my future patients and hopefully, everyone whom I cross path with, so that we will be able to live the life we are meant to live. There is never one answer, it is just that our judgements and ignorance cloud the alternatives.

I will explain during the course of this prolonged fast 3 salient questions.
1. What is medicine?
2. What is nature's law to good health?
3. What is dis-ease?

1. What is medicine?

Definition(Latin: medicus=physician):The science of diagnosing, treating, or preventing disease and other damage to the body or mind.

Now. let's scrutinize the definition. In all types of medicine (western, homeopathy, TCM, Ayuverdic) these are the basic sequence to a success treatment. Beginning with diagnose, we circle out the disease through physical examination. [ In TCM, the ingenious observations of the chinese of the wrist pulse, tongue, odour, pallor, voice and expressions serve as additional clues to physicians.] Next we treat to remove the disease.(Here is the moot point that modern doctors often get wrong: What are we removing? Point: Removing the cause not symptoms)Finally, prevention so as to maintain a pink bill of health and prolong life. (While FDA does a decent job in outlining a general schematic for good health, understand this: to create an optimum health/life is individualistic, tailored for the needs of the body, compensated for weaknesses and accentuation and preservation of the strengths. The general idea in health though, expanded in question 2, is elimination, correct, enhance, balance.)

Obviously, the definition of medicine begs the question of "holistic" medicine. I am certain everyone will want a stamp of good health, rather than bet your life on temporary relief and delayed aggravation. But what is holistic medicine?

The word "holistic" means "whole". In providing holistic care, the therapist addresses you not only from the point of view of its disease, but also considers what may have caused the condition. There are many levels to look at: lifestyle, dietary habbits, emotions(point, other than genetics, these form the main 3 "LED" "nurture" reasons for disease); these may all have a relationship with the symptoms you observe. Believe it or not, our body knows how we got sick, why we got sick and how to heal us. The reason it doesn't do so is because of the stresses that we put in the way.
.
Why is elimination of the symptom NOT the same as elimination of the disease?
Physicians and surgeons palliate symptoms instead of removing causes.

Modern medicine feels, in most cases, that the elimination of the symptom is the same as elimination of the disease. The greatest harm of drug treatment is usually not so much the toxicity or side effects as it is the effects of suppression. Suppression gives the illusion of a quickfix but it does not eliminate the unerlying problem.(Remember, we always pay the price for immediate gratification.) There are 2 reslting implications: 1. reappearance of the symptom 2. progresses to a depper, more serious problem.(If we use medications to suppress these symptoms then the vital force tries to create new symptoms to compensate for the imbalance that is still there. If the vital force is strong then the original symptom may return. Otherwise, it may be unable to express on the same level and create a symptom that is more interior and could be much worse per Herring's Law. explain in separate msg)

EG of suppressive drugs:Vaccines and allopathic medications are a major source of suppression where homeopathy is concerned, but herbs, acupuncture and incorrect homeopathic remedies can also be suppressive.

Causes of disease: (nature) genetics (nurture) mainly "LED" lifestyle, emotions(stress esp), diet

Symptoms: sign of natural elimination of toxins by the body (nausea, headache, rash)
