Day Thirty-four by hopinso .....

How much relief can we realistically expect?

Will somebody please slap me if I ever take another dose of Intestinal Formula #1 or #2. I took some IF#2 three days ago and all systems came to a halt, I was in so much pain. I guess it was foolish, but last night I took six capsules of IF#1 in the hope of making the IF#2, well..., exit as #2. All I got was more pain. Finally, in desperation, I took three large doses of vitamin C. I can control Vitamin C better than Epsom salt, but I'm still worn out and despite a lot of liquid stool, the IF#2 still feels stuck. I don't know if I have a stricture or what, but there is something going on. Tonight, I think I'll do a Castor oil pack and see if that will help. I did this to myself, so I shouldn't whine, but I've read so many glowing testimonies about that product, and not only does it not work for me, it makes things worse.

I had also read about how wonderful an herbal product called BF&C was. I ordered some oil, syrup and capsules and took them at increasingly large doses, but nothing ever changed. The massage oil felt good, but I found no relief or healing from the products; more wasted $$$$$.

Perhaps we are still trying to use natural medicine with an allopathic mindset. I remember the old cliché where the doctor says take two pills and call me in the morning. Although my doctor's mantra was you'll have to take this the rest of your life. Still, do we expect an immediate relief of symptoms from all our supplements and herbs? Is this the right attitude to approach natural healing? How much patience do we need, and how long should we wait to see if healing will come. I do mean healing, not just the control of symptoms. When Dr. J told me I would need Nexium for the rest of my life because of severe reflux disease, I accepted that. However, my chiropractor healed it with a few adjustments and I never told him about the GERD until I realized it was gone. Doc. said he wasn't treating a disease, he was fixing my neck and I healed myself. I went from three or more reflux events a week to one mild one in three and a half years. I know that the body can heal itself, but I wonder if we don't approach herbs the same way we look at drugs.

I want by back to heal naturally if at all possible. But I get so discouraged while waiting. I've wasted a lot of money on useless solutions that others swear by. Does this mean I can't be "fixed", or is it simply not time, or am I doing something wrong? I don't know the answer.
