Here is a photo of a BEAUTIFUL large spider who lives in my yard. He is really large, too - bigger than my whole thumb! He creates beautiful large webs, some of them "zipper" webs. I try to leave him alone so that he will stay around. (I say "he" - I don't know the gender).
