“But it’s my birthday………”

How often have I heard (and used! the excuse “I had to have it – it was my birthday”, like someone forced open our mouths and rammed a lot of unhealthy food and drink in against our wills.

A birthday can bring a new beginning, why not use your birthday to think about the rest of your life, a life living to your full potential, doing what you are really meant to do and which brings you joy and fulfilment. To be your best you must eat foods that nourish your body and mind. Healthy food that nourishes you at all levels of your being.

Having devised the Yoga for Slimmers programme which I adhere to and will do for the rest of my life because for me and many others it is a wonderful map to help you slim from the inside out – stress free! I find that quite naturally now without adhering to any rigid system, just being aware and practising the yoga regime with affirmations, combined with gentle self enquiry, the need to use birthdays as an excuse to pig out has just dissipated. I now use my birthday to celebrate me and my life, and the people I love, so I think about things I’ve done and things I want to do in the future. Generally, this includes helping others, and that to me is a much better turn on than stuffing myself with food that poisons my body and mind (food affects your thinking and so your attitude).

Another challenge around birthdays is that every year I vowed that I would lose (by my birthday) that dreaded 10lbs or more, depending on my size at the time. I never ever succeeded. Why did I and so many others fail? It was because I had not planned well with appropriate goals based on my values (more about goals & values in other blogs). Plus the stress I incurred and the misery of a stringent diet also added to failure. It was doomed to failure before I started. Of course I didn’t know these methods at the time and consequently I felt I had failed (there is no such thing as failure - you can use this knowledge to help you to see things and try things differently) I was so miserable at not achieving my weight loss goal by my birthday I would eat and drink to help me feel better. (Which made me fatter) and so the vicious yo yo dieting carousel continued.

What do I do now on birthdays? This year I am travelling from Asia to UK to present my work at Manchester Yoga Show, Champneys Health Spa (Ashby de la Zouche) and the Glasgow Vitality Show. Please come and see me! I love presents so my husband buys me lots of lovely little things (non-edible) and I don’t drink very much any more, as alcohol is not good for me, it makes me very bloated and with my work of writing, speaking and listening (to my higher self) I need to be very clear at all times, so anything that distracts this I don’t do anymore. I walk my talk as being in integrity is one of my values. This is so great to feel like this, previously I used to give my power away to wine, cheese, sweets etc, like me you can learn to be in control and empowered – believe me it feels great not to give your power away to food and drink, much much better than the fleeting 30 seconds enjoyment it brings!

By the way it’s my birthday today! I send you love and blessings and a virtual big hug x
PS My birthday wish for YOUR birthday is that you realise your own worth and love yourself, stop doing what didn’t work and help you in the past and move on to a glorious future filled with abundant joy.
