baby steps...baby steps

Date:   3/12/2006 2:40:50 PM ( 18 y ago)

OK, so I'm doing this 1/2 hour of walking per day thing. Of course I walk longer sometimes, however 1/2 hour is the minimum. This seems to be working for me better than the pedometer approach. Good.

A gray day, the earth crusted with stiff snow blobs and globs and ice patches here and there. Conscious walking in this weather means watching my step mostly.

Just walked in my neighborhood. Here, there, and everywhere I walked past small and medium-sized groups of teens. Since it was morning, many were apparently gathering to plan their day or their whole weekend, or maybe their spring break. Who knows? I'm grateful my kids are grown and have become marvelous adults. The teen years are awkward years for so many. They were for me. So much going on hormonally. There are amazing parents who somehow guide their kids through those challenging teenage years sans drugs/alcohol (that is, sans drugs/alcohol for the TEENS). I know probably a large percentage of parents are social drinkers and live normal lives. I know some parents think that being a social drinker and even smoking a little pot every now and then is normal. However it is not a good example to set for kids.

I'm going way off on some tangent here. Got to get back to my walk!

Clearly I did lots of thinking about teenagers, my own teen years, and my offsprings' teen years. Once beyond that, I went back to focusing on the ice blobs all over the neighborhood. Most of my neighborhood is without sidewalks. There were some sneaky big and little slush pits too. Fortunately I didn't fall down.

After about 40 minutes of fast-paced yet cautious maneuvering through the neighborhood, I returned home and then left in my car to go do a bunch of errands.

On a side note: I discovered a site called

http://del.icio.us

I recommend it to curezoners for many reasons. I want to explain what it is: a networking opportunity extraordinaire! It is simple to use. You create a site free and use it to easily save whatever sites you want to save as links there. Your newly saved links can be seen by whoever is using the site, and you can see who else has saved the same site you just saved. You can save sites in groups that you categorize and name. You can surf other peoples sites of saved links, and you find these other people based on similar interests. There's other stuff to do there too, and not much commercial interference, no pop ups or anything like that.

I think we curezoners should be present there to add links to health and healing resources on the 'net. It's a great way to reach a multitude of diverse populations all at once!

Once again, thanks for listening. Having this blog to write in is helpful for me in keeping my commitment to walking.
