Knowledge isn't always what we think it is. Listening to our bodies is a very powerful source.

Trying as hard as I may to engage other forms of knowledge, I continue to ram up against the prevailing attitudes: not only within myself, but the community at large. It is difficult to understand things that appear to us as symbols—at least, on the surface, as in dreams—without taking them literally. Opening those symbols, however, I find worlds of wisdom and knowledge.

Each kernel within these symbols holds immaculate energies of transformation. If I allow these symbols to open me into a deeper understanding of the immediate world surrounding me, strange things happen. As they should!

Take, for instance, the twitching within my body. Is this a simple case of a smasmodic muscle involuntarily convulsing due to a nerve ending ill at ease, or is a symbol of something deeper seeking my attention? Is the heat rising up between my thumb and wrist a symptom of a rash, or is it a reflection of something deeper, perhaps even a healing energy seeking expression through my body?

If I engage a medical encyclopedia to explain these symptoms, I will only be moving into the accepted worldview of what these strange phenomena in my body are saying. I will be denying what my body is saying, these deep symbols of movement expressing themselves in a non-ordinary way, because they are non-ordinary to me. I’ve come to know my body and how my body talks. This, I feel, is important, and something our scientifically-inclined culture does not imagine to be a realistic—or prudent—way of living in the 21st century.

So I listen and learn.
