Bad policy is killing people with Fentynal

  There are some obvious problems with the way health authorities have handled the opiate overdose issue.

    For example - The College [of Phys. and Surgeon] ordered Doctors to limit prescribed morphine [morphine is the most commonly prescribed of all opiate drugs]  to just 180 mgs per day. In fact, this policy might have been what put the wheels in motion for the flood of Fentynal that began shortl after the morphine reduction policy.

   Obvious common sense solutions are not being used - people often comment that Doctors should stop STARTING new patients on opiate drugs - especially the younger ones. This idea also comes up now that 10 he  ears of this high ratge of overdose deaths has passed and we eee the death rate continue - there must be REPLACEMENTS coming down the line - new opiate addicts are being created or the death rate would start going down after time. So stop prescribing opiate drugs to people under 40 years old maybe?

  We need a long term approach that did NOT involve reducing prescribed morphine to patients who have been on this drug for several years. The B.C, Coroiner has said that the flood of Fentynal explains "the entire increase in overdose deaths"

 . In other words, reducing prescribed morphine "invited" the Chinese Fentynal producers to flood the underground drug trade. And the College has been told this, but they dod not respond.

   The College has recently issued a new directive for doctors - the largest allowable dose of prescribed morphine is once again being CUT BY HALF!! Last year, I was cut from 360 mgs to the 180 limit, and in January 2019 I will be reducved to 90 mgs.

   Opiate drug users have NEVER been asked to REDUCE. In 100 years of prescribing practise, the only direction was UP unless the patient wants to quit taking the drug altogether. "An increase of 25% once every 6 months to a year" was what my original prescribing doctor told me was the protocol

 But now we are expected to somehow cause our body and brain to be okay with less.Well that isn't happening, so guess what? - people are flocking to Fentynal. Fentynal is the only game in town now.

   Coroner: "Its the Fentynal that is killing them"

   College: "Reduce prescribed opiates, they will flock to the streets for Fentynal"

  So it seems that the College is trying to kill off the addict population. Fair enough, except that some of use never did street drugs, the doctors got me addicted and now they are pulling the rug out from under me - it is as if the College has some incentive to push people to Fentynal?
