Zosia Mamet felt like a little girl sneaking into her mother’s closet when trying on wedding dresses.

The Girls actress tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Evan Jonigkeit at the beginning of October (16) in a rustic, rural wedding. Not one to follow tradition, Zosia ended up settling on a sleek black Givenchy short prom dress for the special day, but not before raiding a department store for options.

“There was never an ounce of stress or anxiety about it because that day was just pure joy and fun and almost childlike. I felt a bit like a little girl sneaking into my mother’s closet,” she smiled to Vogue.com of the shopping trip. “We must have tried on 40 dresses. I wanted something comfortable, and I didn’t really want to wear white. The dress I ultimately chose was by Givenchy, and it was the last one I tried on - the minute it went over my head, both my friends gasped. It definitely wasn’t the most epic in terms of the dress’s power on its own, but it fit me like a glove in every way, and I knew, without a doubt, that it was my dress. That was it, I bought it off the rack.”

Her ‘something borrowed’ was a pair of diamond earrings from her friend and Zosia turned to kitsch shoe brand Brother Vellies for footwear, describing its creations as “simple, but beautiful shoes”.

But what got people talking most after the ceremony was her hair, as the 28-year-old actress’ hair stylist friend Tommy Buckett gave a glimpse at her woodland-style tresses in an photo online. The finished result was several plaits entwined with dark flowers, while the rest of her golden locks were left down.

“I let them run wild,” Zosia smiled of working with Tommy and her friend Joshua, who created her soft make-up. “Tommy, who did my hair, told me at one point that I was ‘unnervingly calm,’ but I don’t think anything on that day could have upset me. If they’d given me a Mohawk, I would have been fine with it. I was marrying the love of my life.”
