Dreaming of Sleeping by Karlin .....

Sleep Disturbance

Date:   7/6/2012 4:56:23 PM ( 12 y ago)

Here is yet another bizarre story of the broken cogs and wheels inside my head.

The one thing I do know is that I lie down to go to sleep. What happens after that, I am not so sure.

It seems that I begin to dream immediately.

Last night I had a dream where I am trying to get to sleep, but in a big bed at some place like a lakeside resort. I am with my nephew and my brother, we all staying in one house or cabin and it is late at night and I cannot get to sleep because my nephew, who is sleeping in the same big double bed, keeps making noises and moving around.

The nuisance behind me continues to disturb, and I decide I should just get up. I wanted to scold him, but for some reason I could not say it.

That is all going on in the dream I am having.

Then, it seems I wake up, in reality I wake up, here in my own bed. I am trying to decide if I should just get up or if this nuisance behind me will settle down... I cannot tell the difference between my dream and reality.

Many nights lately, I have been dreaming of a dream I am having.

"What is behind me making all this fuss then?" I ask myself, but was that in the dream or was I allready awake? Then I wake up and I still hear, feel, and sense something behind me. I should just get up, and end the confusion.

How could I be asking myself if I should get out of my own bed if I am sleeping. The disturbance continues.

One hour and 30 minutes had gone by when I finally got out of bed. I didn't feel like I had slept at all. I was sure there was something behind me.

This has happened a few times every week since about March - FOUR MONTHS. I have not had a six hour sleep two nights in a row since then, and I have only had maybe 10 six hour sleeps in total. All I get is 60 to 90 minutes, and I wake up feeling very disturbed.

I have tried sleeping on both my right side and my left, to no avail. The one time I rolled onto "it" - the thing behind me - I heard a very loud squeeking and squealing sound... and got up quickly. I was so disturbed that I shouted out loud "wtf is going on here?"

It happens over and over, night after night. I have taken various sleeping and antidepressant pills, nothing changes. Trazadone has helped the most, occasionally giving my a 6 hour sleep, but it leaves me very weak and tired the next day, as all anticepressants do to me.

I have reached my limit for tolerating this. I have to move, or start sleeping outside... something.

I have never heard of anyone having this dream over and over. None of the websites on dreams mention it.

The medical explanation is that people sometimes do hallucinate just after going to sleep, or just before waking up. It is called hynogogic [going to sleep] or hypnopompic  [ waking up] hallucinations. The thing is that it seems to go on for so long, like the whole time I am in bed other than those first 5 minutes until I, apparently, fall asleep. I suppose it is all just a trick of the mind - our sense of time can be skewed in dreams.

 Does anyone have any suggestions? Can anyone relate to this odd dreaming? {also, see my Ghost post in this blog}
