Wikileaks Revelation: Saudi Arabia Primary Funder of Terrorism

The Wikileaks release generating the greatest response in the Middle East is a secret report signed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2009 that points a finger squarely at Saudi Arabia as the primary source of funding for terrorists. In the memo, Clinton says, “Donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide,” and complains that the Saudi government is reluctant to turn-off the money-flow. She also accuses Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates as providing funding for terrorist groups. The revelation confirms the widely-held belief that much of what American-led military forces are fighting against in Afghanistan and Pakistan is bankrolled by rich residents of the Gulf states whose funding is uninterrupted by their respective governments.

Saudi Prince: America's Credibility Victim of Wikileaks

“America’s credibility and honesty are victims of [Wikileaks] leaks,” according to Saudi Prince Turki bin Faisal, the Kingdom’s former intelligence chief and ambassador to Washington. In an interview with Germany’s Der Spiegel, The prince assessed that the United States has suffered severe political damage as a result of the Wikileaks revelations. He concludes that, “People, including officials, will no longer speak to American diplomats frankly.” The prince figured prominently in the early leaks, in particular in a widely-repeated cable quoting him as urging the United States to take military action against the Iranian nuclear program – to “cut the head off the snake.” He said that his country will “never” grant Israel flyover rights to enable a mission against Iran, but dismissed the published revelations, telling Der Spiegel that the Wikileaks revelations “are a hodgepodge of selectivity, inaccuracy, agenda pursuit, and downright disinformation.” The prince admonished the United States that the only way it can legitimize withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan is to find Osama Bin Laden. He said that, “Only when Bin Laden is eliminated one way or another can the U.S. and the rest of the world declare victory.”
