Remember Our Troops during the Holiday Season by bluepastry .....

As the holidays approach, it is important to remember our troops, who have left their sons and daughters, their brothers and sisters, their mothers and fathers and their friends to face unknown dangers while defending our flag and our freedom.

Show your support for these brave men and women by supporting the USO. We need your help in bringing some holiday cheer to the more than 2.6 million active duty service members, Reservists and National Guardsmen serving worldwide.

The USO’s special brand of programs and services include:
USO Centers: More than 130 USO centers worldwide work to provide a home away from home to troops and their families.
Operation USO Care Package: USO care packages can contain prepaid international phone cards, snacks, sunscreen, toiletries and other items requested by our troops along with a personal message of support.
Operation Enduring Care: Helps meet the recovery needs of injured service members, their families and the medical personnel who care for the wounded.
USO Operation Phone Home®: Free prepaid international phone cards help troops stay in touch with their family and friends.
United through Reading® Military Program: Allows deployed troops to stay connected to the children in their lives through reading aloud on DVD.

to Help Wounded Troops Stay Connected to Their Families
The USO has partnered with CarePages.com to provide wounded troops a new way to stay in touch with their families and friends while recovering in the hospital and at home. Called a USO CarePage, this free service helps patients and families communicate by sharing health updates, photos and supportive messages via a private Web site.
CarePages.com is an online social network dedicated to the emotional challenges everyone faces when someone they love has a serious health problem. At CarePages.com, people also can find tips and stories about “what to do” and “what to say” to support a person facing a health event and meet others in similar situations. Starting a CarePage for yourself or a loved one is easy. Visit CarePages.com/uso and click on “Create a CarePage.”
In addition to the support pages, the USO and CarePages.com created a new program to give the American public an opportunity to express their support and gratitude to the more than 30,000 wounded troops. This program, “Operation: Show You Care,” features several ways to help injured service members, including:
“Yellow Ribbons for Wounded Troops” – Send a ribbon and best wishes to a service member or add someone they would like to be honored and supported by this simple tribute.
Free “We Care” Cards – If you know of a wounded service member, create an online customized card, which you can e-mail to up to 10 other people for them to sign and add a brief encouraging message. The card is then automatically mailed through the U.S. Postal Service to the designated recipient. The service is free to the first 3,000 people.
