I once fell in love with a make -believe man
(who made-believe that he cared who i am)
I lay all my faith & my trust in his hands-
with my make-believe love; for a make-believe man.
& even his name- was a sham, (i would see);
it's message & meaning STILL unclear to me.
I guess it takes someone as stupid as me,
to fall for a dream- that could never be seen.
I once met a man with a make-believe touch-
(who seemed not to think it amounted to much)
(to carelessly set forth a fire in me)
but sat back to watch, as it blazed over me.
He captured my soul.. and now, all i know...
it's empty above/.. it's empty below..
& nothing i do can make my heart sing-
but these make -believe songs
on these make-believe strings
I once had a dream, & a heart filled with hope
(until i did see; it was all a cruel joke)
& all of the world had gathered *for fun *
(to see how the tears of a broken heart run)
& now that they've seen- all the kicks/all the screams..
I wonder? did ANY once ponder THEIR schemes?
& what will THEY do? (when Life swings around?)
& smashes and dashes THEIR dreams to the ground?
I really don't care.. (what THEIR future might be.. )
(i'm too busy picking up pieces of me)
& wondering , (yet), if the man i can't see..
still carries the heart that i gave him for free?
