Day 5 - Pleased with myself

Halfway thru the new short fast & going good

It's the morning on the 5th day of my short new fast & I'm very pleased with the results, I've slimmed back down in 5 short days to almost where I was before the 3 weeks of eating - and I'm pleased with how I've exerted my willpower - I wanted to do this fast for the results it would have but it was tough and I had to be disciplined to do it, I was really enjoying eating again after 40 days not so long ago - but I hadn't reached my goals and coming off that fast wasn't planned and didn't happen the way I wanted it to - because of this I'm really glad I'm doing this and getting back on the horse as it were. I know that fasting is not a long term way to achieve my weight goals - its a powerful meditative practice, detox and a great kickstart - I'll be heading off on the 15th or 26th for a week long Dzogchen retreat - no doubt I'll end up eating on the retreat (being with a Buddhist Master and on a retreat schedule is a very powerful thing, it shifts incredible amounts of energy for the individual to be around such high vibration beings and food often helps to ground that when you're on retreat... people tend to eat more than usual but I'm going to try and stay light on the food maybe missing breakfast at least and doing some yoga then instead while everyone is off eating and I have the meditation room to myself :)

So I have had to implement my will power, and there are times I get upset that I just seem to always pack on the weight and how tough it is to have to work it all off - a life of counting calories doesn't seem very fun when you're grumpy and want a cheeseburger but its a solid reality - more and more as I look at what is healthy vs. the foods and portions I've been conditioned to think of as normal - they are just not the same and never will be! I'm looking into 1200 calorie diet menu's at the moment and just thinking a lot about the long term changes I have to make to honor all this hard work I do - I'm seriously educating myself now for the long term and will be working to change my habits and count what I do have more and more to become aware of what I take in without even thinking about it.

Anyway - oftentimes in life great things come of discipline, it is one of the Paramitas after all - so may this practice increase my qualities and help to develop that in me for the benefit of all sentient beings, truly development of the 6 Paramitas is a very important step on the spiritual path.

I've been exercising, in these past 5 days I've done 3 sessions of yoga, a couple sessions of cycling, a session of bullworker isometric exercises along with some gardening, a little walking and housework - I've been gently getting my activity up and back to my yoga and will continue with another session upon finishing this blog entry.

Its good to have this forum to track what I do and also to help me focus myself on my goals - this time, I want to wean off the fast on the way up to retreat, eat light on the retreat - keeping my caloric intake in the weight loss zone while I'm up there somewhere between 900-1600 cals per day and not going over that, then come back and go on either another small fast - another 11 days or so would be really ideal - then come off it slowly and go onto a longer term diet - a mix at first of the 1200 calorie and intermittent fast diet - maybe 3 days of 1200, 3 days of the 500 calorie fast days and a day of 16-1800 feast day - try to stay on that until I get to where I want to be and the weather gets too cold - at which point I'll go more for a maintenance diet and also integrate more physical activity into this. I'd like to go back to the gym 3 times a week though I think the memberships are really overpriced... maybe I can get a discount membership though and go off peak etc..

Well enough of my focusing my head on where I'm going, time to focus my being on a yoga session for the next 90 mins and warm up the body and spirit :)

Thanks for Reading & Best Luck to all you Readers in your own practices!
