Uncle Sam Marries "Anti" GMO; What Will it Take?
In this article written expressly for The Life Connection, San Diego, I want to share with you five "Gardening Tools,"-- principles-- for restoring America the Beautiful. These are inspirations from my Campaign to Grow A Healthier Pizza. The Campaign title itself, Grow A Healthier Pizza is a mandate for Food Reform. Without such Food Reform we will continue on a downward slope of ill health and ill preparation of the next generation for the task at hand, the renewal of the very foundation of our nation.
D.H. Lawrence, in Studies in Classical American Literature, said, "This is the true myth of America. She starts old, old, wrinkled and writhing in an old skin. And there is a gradual sloughing off of the old skin, towards a new youth. It is the myth of America."

My theme--Uncle Sam Marries "Anti" GMO--is a dream I am planting with you now. Without this inevitable action--I do not believe we will return to our nation's destiny, the destiny to be healthy and an inspiration in the world.
I want to share my honest truth for what it would take--how impossible it may sound--for us to become a healthy nation again.
I want to affirm the power in seeds--Heirloom Seeds and Ancient Grains, especially Kamut® khorasan ancient wheat that have transformed and lifted up my own soul many times. Thoreau once said, "Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a see there, and I am prepared to expect wonders." My thought, Plant a seed. Grow a Whole new world.
WHAT DO I MEAN BY UNCLE SAM MARRIES "ANTI" GMO?
There is a wedding up ahead if the United States is to regain its foothold on the original vision our our nation. It is the Marriage of Uncle Sam, the archetypal figure of the U.S, getting married to "Anti" GMO. "Anti" as intended here is a play on words. Uncle and "Auntie" get married.
The US Government is currently in the farm bed with Biotechnology. Rather than investing in the Bank of Compost, we are committed to a path of alternative Technology that we imagine can get us out of the dilemmas we have created in the first place.
An awakening is needed. There was already a perfect technology that goes with successful living on Planet Earth. It is called Nature's Original Technology.
Nature’s Original Technology is supreme. We can no longer allow disabling Technologies to supplant what nature had in mind. Our future on this earth is no longer guaranteed due to the natural cycles of evolution as well as lifestyle practices that are now in the driver’s seat of our soul’s existence.
Dr. Bernard Jensen often said, "We cannot break the natural Laws. We break ourselves on the Law."
No matter how many days or years this planet we each have, let us get engaged now upholding the Soul inspired values that nature had in mind.

I see it as inevitable that GMO's will be labeled, yet "Outgrowing GMOs" asks a shift in Consciousness that begins with the individual, and becomes a Grassroots Movement, that is profoundly nature connected, and then, because of its popularity, trickles upward to become a shift that becomes so popular that Uncle Sam Marries "Anti" GMO. You are invited to the wedding. The wedding date is in your hands.
More and more people are becoming Engaged in the fight against GMOs. We are marching. We are creating the consumer demand for labeling as well as a growing awareness that biotechnology in the farm field is a lost cause for many reasons. including health and its impact on the loss of biodiversity of seeds. GMOs are a symptom of a disconnection, a loss of soul with the soil. My hope is that the connection will be made that true cultivation begins in the soil, and it is here where the roots of our grassroots movement will become grounded.

This is the story, a retelling of the Zarathustra Myth of the King who lost his crown.
Once Upon a Time, a King and Queen lost their crown.
They sought answers everywhere. They could not find them.
An Enchanted Gardener gave them a simple seed of Ancient Wheat that he kept in a package inside the Pizza Box.
He told them that inside that seed, and the Box were all the answers to the problems in their world.
One day they planted their Sacred Seed. Their own life started from a seed and through growing seeds and plants into fixings to Make A Healthier Pizza their life began growing in harmony with nature.
As the plant grew, they realized that they too were Sacred Seeds. The place where they lived flourished and became an Enchanted Garden adding beauty to the world one plant at a time.

First of all, let us be clear. Our Government is currently in the farm bed with systems of technology that are foreign to the soul, and foreign to nature. Referring to the soul's connection to nature, Emerson says, “One is seal, and one is print” By this he means to say, nature and the soul are connected.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said that, that nature is the opposite of the soul, answering to it part for part. One is seal, and one is print. Its beauty is the beauty of his own mind. Its laws are the laws of his own mind. Nature then becomes to him the measure of his attainments. So much of nature as he is ignorant of, so much of his own mind does he not yet possess. And, in fine, the ancient precept, "Know thyself," and the modern precept, "Study nature," become at last one maxim.

I am convinced that the task at hand then is to re-establish the connection between the soul and nature. It is the literal act of becoming familiar with seeds and how they grow, that can inspire our own soul growth.

The Grassroots Movement that it will take to Outgrow GMOS needs to have this concept of growing grassroots movement as its foundation:
It is one of Szekely's favorites from George Washington Carver. "When I touch grass, I touch infinity. It existed long before there were human beings on the earth, and it will continue to exist for millions of years to come.
Through the grass, I talk to the infinite, which is only a silent force. This is not a physical contact. It is not in the earthquake, wind, or fire. It is the invisible world of nature, of which I, too, am a part."

The Campaign to Grow A Healthier Pizza began when Government went into agreement with the Moneybags in 2011 to say that two ounces of tomato sauce defined Pizza as a vegetable. The historical roots of transgressions against Food go back near 100 years.
"Outgrowing" GMOs is key to Food Reform; "The Right to Know" and Knowing How to Grow Food go hand in hand.

WHAT IS A SACRED SEED?
What do I mean by Sacred Seeds?
The very act of gardening with intention, called Enchanted Gardening, gives the opportunity to reconnect with nature and Nature's Original Technology. We are each Sacred Seeds. The very act of entering a Sacred Relationship with Heirloom Seed and Ancient Grains has the potential to bring Soul Life Present.
Emerson said I say, The Earth and the Soul are Soil Mates. This is a paragraph from an Article I am writing to submit to the July issue of The Life Connection Magazine.
In this article I want to express my deepest appreciation to Jere Gettle of the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company and Paul Wallace of the Petaluma Seed Bank for their inspiration and work putting on the Fourth Annual World's Pure Food Fair.
Each year at the Sonoma Fairgrounds our Sacred Seed Tribe Gathers. Al Jolson sang a song with the words. "I would walk a million miles for one of your smiles!"
That is why I make the effort to be a part of this event each year. Each day we have an opportunity to live on this earth is a blessing. I truly am not sure how many more years we have living the way we do now without making essential shifts.
The Heirloom seeds and ancient grains can be our teachers. I want to be doing something Sacred on my last day. Helping grow out a seed or two from the Baker Creek Rare Seed Collection and Ancient Kamut® Khorasan wheat are two acts that give my life meaning.
