I want to make some reflections on yesterday. It was a very stressful day. Things that were under the surface came up to be looked at. They were very scary.
This early morning, while still in bed, I started to look at links to see how others were living together in community in my city of San Diego.
The following are links that I was led to, the latest is the most recent.
At the bottom is an ad for a room rental for a group of people who are living together with intention.
I have been living with a group for many years here in San Diego.
I entered the New Year of 2014 with the metaphor of two pies. One pie represents my work in the world, and the other pie, my work at the house.
Living with others in a relatively small space for a kitchen, for example, brings up many issues.
The longer a person lives here, the more they become embedded in the fabric of the house.
One of the issues I am aware of, is how to make sure that new residents have room to live here.
another issue that is up is commons. Commons are shared areas where all have some say.
Intention determines as well, items in a common space.
We are at a time when, more and more people, in the US are exploring living together, and the need to return to another way of life.

We are a cooperative/co-housing property interested in building self-governing, socially, economically, culturally and ecologically just housing. The lot is shared with several structures on it. We are just east of downtown San Diego. We are so far, 6 people that could expand into 13 people over 4 units, interested in building an alternative society, holistic solutions, and practicing our values. Our community is on a third acre of land, that has a garden space, a bicycle space, laundry, space for guests, a multi purpose workshop, and soon, a study and art space, and an outdoor kitchen, other leisure and sustainability features.
We are looking for someone who understands the need to live communally, yet autonomously. Part of being a member of our community means participation in bi-monthly meetings and bi-monthly home projects (ranging from art to deep cleaning), a commitment to communicating and having compassionate honesty with other members, sharing of domestic responsibilities, including a cooking night, and some volunteering of your time and skills to neighborhood projects. We desire people with similar values and who are interested in being actively involved in contributing to relationships in this community, and its projects, events, and neighbors.
We are seeking roommate(s) to fill (or share) rooms to move into a 3 bedroom 1 bath house on the property and participate as a member of our community. Rent is $500 per month plus $500 deposit, not including utilities or shared food purchases. We also have non-rental, long-term, affordable ownership opportunities available after completing a period of provisional membership. All available as soon as February 1st.
