electric cars would save America a lot of oil, but the Pres. did not mention them.

Obama failed to mention Electric Cars

It is an odd thing that Pres. Obama did not mention electric cars in his speech about getting America to reduce it's use of fossil fuels, because if Americans were driving electric cars it would save a lot of oil right off the bat.

Imagine even 50% of Americans using electric cars for their daily commute!! That might end the need for offshore drilling right there. Maybe they could shut the Tar Sands down too then. Maybe thats why there are no electric cars.

This speech was not about global warming, but since that is a major concern everywhere today, it should be noted that even if electric cars were re-charged from coal fired power plants, the emissions would be lower. Here is Wiki on that:
"Electric cars have the potential of significantly reducing city pollution by having zero tail pipe emissions.[3][4][5] Vehicle greenhouse gas savings depend on how the electricity is generated. With the current U.S. energy mix, using an electric car would result in a 30% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.[6][7][8][9]"
