Hey, tambee, I was amazed too. The story has it that Pres. Bush was watching a video by Cousteau taken of the region, and he was so impressed by the beauty of the place that he called for immediate action to preserve it. on a more cynical note, others said he did it to boost his public image for being pro-environment as he called for oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; he said OK to the Hawaii region because there is no oil discovered there.

whatever the reason, I'm glad it's being preserved!
