I have had mirena now for almost 16 months. i got it two months after my child was born. I started experiencing horrible back pain about 4 months later sfter it was inserted. It was around the holiday shopping time. I couldn't hardly stand up straight from a sitting position. it didn't matter how long i had been sitiing (long time or just a few minutes. It was getting worse rapidly. I went to the doctor and complained specifically of my back pain. i told him it was like i was an old lady overnight. i didn't even want to go anywhere. my 50 year old mother was comparing me to my 76 year old grandmother. i thought i was doomed. i never take medicine, and i had started taking prescription m,otrin three times a day just to try to get rid of the pain. I felt horrible because i felt my husband was getting cheated out of a wife. I literally felt like crap. I went to see my ob/gyn and i had told him about the backache and when he went to touch my back i was screaming out in pain. he ordered me to have an MRI . (oh yes, the internist told me that as we get older we all will experience pains. gave me a complete bloodwork, told me i was the healthiest person he had seen all that week.) the MRI revealed that I have degenerative Disk Disease w/ a little bone pertrusion. I have never ever had back ache problems before in my life. I was mortified. then i started realizing that all that pain had started a little after i had mirena. my ob'gyn ordered me to have physical therapy on my back. after months of therapy i started feeling better, but i am not where i used to be. I also experience hip pain on a constant basis. My hip joint feels like it's out of place, like it's always popping especially when i sleep at night. I brought that to the attention of my thrapist, they suggested all kinds of exercises,, but frankly nothing works. i really started believing it was all related to mirena, but i had never heard of these kinds of side effects before. I thought i'd try to find out if there was anything on the internet, and how elated i was to find this site. i am also amazed that as i read through the different complaints, the most common, and highly unusual complaint is the backache and hip pain. It's not even like a tired feeling or even a hurt, it feels more muscular and it feels like your youth is being drained right from your body, by the way I am 35 yrs. old. thank god i found this site. now what are we going to do! i am from kalamaoo, MI.
