Hi,
I just thought I would tell you guys that I am having mine removed tomorrow.

I have had most/all of the described symptoms: bloating, cyst formation, joint pain, acne, hair loss, .....the list goes on. I am really not sure it's the Mirena-I am 45-could it be premenopausal symptoms? They can be the same. There's no way to know unless it's removed. My main issue is that I am almost constantly bleeding or spotting--this has been going on for 7 months, and I am fed up.

I have talked to many of my friends here in France, where the Mirena is common and heavily promoted by my gynecologist. Some women just love it (no periods). Others have had it removed due to acne and other symptoms...For example, the first question of any dermatologist here when a 30- to 40- year old women comes to see him for acne is, "Are you using the Mirena?" (this is no joke)

My thinking is, and I've had this confirmed, is that some women are sensitive to the progesterone in the thing. Once it's removed, things should go back to normal. As with any medicine/medical treatment--there are some people who just can't take it due to side effects. I just wish that doctors were better informed (and would inform their patients of the risks) so that women out there are do not think they are crazy if they experience any of the negative side effects.

Will keep you posted.
