I am so relieved to have found this website! I had the Mirena put in about 6 weeks ago, and have been suffering ever since. About a day or two after I got it, I started to experience joint pain and chills -- similar to how you feel when you come down with the flu. The joint pain and the chills seemed to come and go. Some days I felt fine, and other days I would ache so bad in my ankles, knees and wrists that I could barely make it down the stairs in the morning. I would also get chills but no fever. Then I got insomnia. I have never had a problem sleeping, but since I got the Mirena it seems like I just lay in bed looking at the clock all night.

This week I had another really bad episode of the aches and chills, so I decided to go online and see if anyone else had the same problems. That search brought me to this website. I am glad to hear that I am not alone, but I am also saddened to hear that others have sufferend through the same thing as me.

My Dr.'s office also gave me the run-around that it couldn't possibly be the Mirena (because joint pain is not listed on the Mirena brochure). I asked to have it removed and they gave me a hard time about that too...until I begged them. Then, they told me that they would have to get my insurance carrier's approval to get it removed (because it cost $500 to get it). I told them to send me a bill if they had to, but it was coming out! I had it removed 2 days ago and I seem to be feeling better. I still ache, but I have been able to sleep at night and have also managed to go 2 days without taking Advil or Tylenol. My hands, knees and ankles still feel like I have arthritis but it appears to be getting better.

I am interested in finding out how long these side effects last after you have had the Mirena removed. If you have had a similar experience, please email me at:

Good luck to all of you!

-Pam
