Tryptophan and 5 Hydroxy trytophan (5Htp) are both precursors of serotonin though %Htp is more immediate as tryptophan is actually converted into 5 hydroxy trptophan which is converted to 5 hydroxy tryptamine or serotonin.

This information on tryptohan being only by prescription is erroneous and is a scare tactic or a misinformed person. One should realize that this food supplement is a powerful form of serotonin and is as effective as antidepressants in supplement form it is way more powerful than turkey or any other tryptophan containing food that only contains trace amounts.
