I live in Australia and I had the Mirena inserted 18months ago. I thought everything was fine with it until I started reading your posts. About 5 months after having the mirena inserted (4-6 months irregular periods) I had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism due to huge weight gain 10kg in 4 months, depressed mood, bloating, swelling of feet and hands and many more symptoms. I am now on medication for the rest of my life for this. After reading the posts on this website, I wonder if my symptoms have been caused by the mirena. I have an appointment in 9 days time to have it removed. The symptoms I have now are extremely sore breasts, bloated tummy, weight gain has not decreased and having no period at all.
I will be very interested in how I feel once it has been removed. I will post again and let others know.
