Its not one of her vampire books but goes in a totally different direction but yeah, its still great to "hear" her voice. I actually was close friends with someone who knew her before she was famous and they would sit over coffee and talk about her writing and he of course was a writer also, but his stories regaling me of those times and sharing his copies of her books, hooked me.

I LOVED New Orleans and had always felt that sense of mystery and the reality of spirits that had come back there or stayed there. My last visit there, I spent a week with a friend who lived in the french quarter. I ventured out further that time to admire the old homes and the trees and foliage, and just the humidity and the *sense* of ancientness that Anne captures in her writing, made New Orleans seem alive, like some colossal old being that humans just lived on. I always wanted to take my daughter there and we had plans but now the New Orleans I knew and loved is no more. I truly grieved after Hurricane Katrina, for the people and the city.

Lucky for me, Anne puts out a new book once a year on average and my daughter buys me hardbacks and I have a collection I hope to pass on to her...perhaps if for no other reason than to remember New Orleans by. Anne's son, Christopher, is also a writer and I read his book and was impressed. I have to play catch-up with him since he has written a few more since then.
