thanks for writing! yeah, unfortunately I'm one "greenie" that was fooled, thinking that agribusiness turning crops to bio-fuels was "the way" to decrease our dependence on petroleum fuels. Why would agribusiness care, except to make a buck? I was always concerned about the amount of pesticides and herbicides used to produce crops, and thought the way to go would be to produce enough organic corn & soy for biofuels, but this doesn't look like a go. Using willow trees doesn't sound feasible, as they take a long time to grow, unless you had whole huge commercial forests of them expressly for the purpose of producing bio-fuel... and I never heard of switchgrass, either, and wonder if that's a grass that can be grown in large enough amounts, or are we going to start raiding the prairie grasses and putting them on the endangered list, too, in our lust for fuels for our ever-guzzling vehicles? Sigh. I don't know WHAT the answer is, except to go back to a pre-industrial, low-tech society and everyone drives horses and buggies again, and use sailing vessels for very long trips overseas!
