Yeah, I never would have thought they taste good raw, either, but my cousin liked to put raw asparagus in our homemade california rolls (japanese rice seaweed rollups). YUM. Then I was at my granddad's farm and it turns out that raw asparagus grow wild in the pasture, and my uncle likes to walk around and eat them. So I did that, took a walk and would snip off the young thin asparagus and eat them right there! Tastes great! They need to be fresh, and firm but tender, obviously.
I don't know about brussels sprouts, though...
