very interesting article. yes, a personal experience of the divine is really of the essence, however you come by it. i love rumi's poetry, though whether or not shams and he were physical lovers is not clear at all and should not be assumed in my opinion.

the idea of a "false self" too is important. the notion we create an identity that we know will gain us approval, usually from our parents. then one day we say "gee who am i really?" then the process of enlightenment begins. but it is only the begining. thanks.
