Yes, I am very well aware of all that you write about in your comment. I know about the toxic chemicals in paper production and what they do to the environment--I have had MCS for 20 years so I am very aware of what these chemicals do to humans! I am painfully aware of the mis-use of paper, of wood, of trees. I am very aware of clear-cutting for raising of cattle and the barbarous way "food" animals are treated. I am pro-hemp and buy hemp products; I am aware of our government's ridiculous laws against growing of hemp in the U.S. I agree with you very much--it IS all about mass consumerism and money. And I am angry too.

Yes, I agree with you, these "successes" are but a miniscule drop in the proverbial bucket. The task of greening and cleaning the environment is monumental and seems endless. I used to bitch, whine, and moan about it. Now, I'm doing something, even in a miniscule and minor way. I'm doing it for myself, and anyone else who's interested. This blog, Mother Earth Heals, is my meager attempt to educate people. As Lapis says, and thank you Lapis, it is a matter of changing people's consciousness. I have to believe that when enough of us experience this shift, this awareness, that Mother Earth is a living being and we are fouling Her, we will each, in our own way, do something different about the way we live and consume.

I write this blog, I am a recycling fiend, I am water-conscious, consumer conscious, I buy organic food, I buy used clothing and furnishings, I use biodegradable cleaning and personal care products, I sign every darn e-letter and e-petition sent to me regarding the environment (and believe me, I get a lot), I give money to environmental organizations, I talk to the Earth and She talks to me, and I know I still have much to learn and much to do about changing the way I live and breath and walk upon the planet.

Anyone living in a Western culture contributes to the destruction of the environment every day, just because of the societies we live in, and anyone living in the United States of America is quadruple responsible for this as we are 10% of the world's population and use 25% of the world's resources and contribute at least 25% the greenhouse gases leading to global warming.

Now, I can take those facts and sit on my tuchas and do absolutely nothing. Or I can try and do the best I can as a human being to help change things. Everyone has the same choice.

Thanks for letting me spout.

I'll get off of my soapbox, at least for now. And climb off of my high horse.
