Hi, Ren!
I try not to buy plastic, also, but it's darn hard not to--when I was a kid almost all of the packaged foods came in glass--such as ketchup. I buy as little of it as I can because my local recycler takes only #1 or #2 plastic. it takes a lot of energy to recycle the plastic. it's better to not produce it in the first place.
I find myself saving all of the plastic containers from grocery shopping--my shelves are overflowing with them, I just can't throw them out! slowly, the old ceramic plates I've had for years are cracking (I try to not throw these out either, but break them up and use the ceramic shards in the bottom of my potted plants to help aerate the soil). I've decided to not buy new plates but use all of the plastic containers that I can't recycle as "plates" instead. I'm weird, I guess.
