FACTS:
Cane sugar is a natural sweetener.
Commercial honey can be heated, filtered, and refined.
Fructose in honey irritates liver and causes adipose fat increase more than fructose in sucrose
(see reseach at Mercola).
Honey can contain pathogens, allergens, and GMO pollens.
Vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants can be easily returned to cane sugar by also using organic unsulfured blackstrap molasses.
CAVEAT:
If label does not say cane sugar, it may contain GMO sugar beet sugar also.
SUGGESTION:
Consider rotating syrups: molasses, maple, birch, yacon, etc.
Use sweetner alternives Stevia and luo han guo (Siraitia grosvenorii).
Stevia extracts have up to 300 times the sweetness of sugar.
Medical research has also shown possible benefits of stevia in treating obesity and high blood pressure.
Stevia has a negligible effect on blood glucose.
Medical research has shown Stevia promising in treating obesity and hypertension.
Possible treatment of osteoporosis with Stevia has been suggested.
Luo han guo is nearly 300 times sweeter than sugar and has been used as a natural sweetener in China for a millennium.
Recent research on luohan guo suggests that the mogroside works as an antioxidant and that it helps to prevent cancer.
Luo han guo is used as a remedy for diabetes and obesity.
Luo han guo has been shown to be useful against the Epstein-Barr virus.
There are no reported incidents of negative side effects of luohan guo that are known.
Luo han guo is classed by the American Food and Drug Administration as a GRAS.
Yacon syrup contains FOS (fructooligosaccharide), a prebiotic, that it feeds the friendly bacteria in the colon that boost the immune system and help digestion.
