The herbs that can help you fight against swine flue are, turmeric, neem, guggol(giloy) and tulsi(occimum sanctum). Ginger and pepper helps in any kind of flu.
There are different kinds of "Kashaya" kind of warm drink you can make to consume these.
If you do not have a problem with "heaty" things(Ginger and pepper create a lot of heat) then you can consume it daily or several times a day like tea.
The simplest form to take turmeric is boiling it with milk. Add pepper to it.
For vegans you can take turmeric, ginger and pepper and boil it to get a decoction.
I once had a kashaya of ginger, pepper, coconut milk and palm jaggery(round jaggery). This got rid of my cough in just one glass.
You have to boil ginger pepper for some while and get a strong decoction It should be really strong.
So you take around a "peg" 60ml and then add coconut milk into which the palm jaggery has been dissolved.
Palm jaggery gives a lot of respiratory benefits.
You can have this drink as nice "hot" drink in winter.
I make a special Kashayam That I drink, It immediately gets rid of not only flue and cold but also cough, body aches, Stomach aches and the best part headaches.
I just boil together, ginger, pepper, black salt, Coriander seed powder, Cumin powder, Tulsi leaves, Mint leaves, Garcinia Cambogia(Garcinia indica is also equally effective, if you don't have any you can just add Sour limes)turmeric(fresh one) and Fresh coriander leaves(just for taste). I just add a little cinnamon and bay leaf for taste too.
You can add two tablespoon of honey to it.
I just add a little more of pepper and ginger and skip the honey, Sprinkle with fresh coriander leaves and drink like a hot soup.
Amazing it is.
neem and guggol can be taken in supplement form(http://www.organicindia.com/ has some good organic supplements which they ship worldwide) but fresh juice is always the best. Neem is very bitter and only the bravest can have it. But guggol has a very passive taste and one can chew on its leaves easily. It has no bad taste at all.
I have never got flew since a few years. The last treatments for 3-4 of my flu attacks, was Drinking the Ginger pepper turmeric Kashayam, Drinking lots of hot water and covering myself in a thick blanket and sweating it out for 3-4 hours. You can sweat it out 2 times or 3 times a day or as an when the symptoms increase.
Also drink atleast 2 tender coconuts to which a teaspoon of rocksalt has been added(to make up for lost electrolytes)
I think this has made me immune to around 4 strains of flu. Now I do not get flu even if I come in contact with flu patients.
I think I might only get it if some new strain comes in contact with me.
Sweating is an old grandmother remedy. Works for me well, but I would recommend it to anyone as a "cure"
There are too many complications in flu, Unless you know your body well and if flu just passes by like a normal cold for you, then only you can think of "sweating it out" as a flu cure.
As a child I remember our family doctor would always make my mom stay awake all night monitor my temperature and putting a cloth on my head(soaked in hot salt water). Also she would give me fluids to drink.
The doctor would never give even a paracetmol sometimes up to two days. He never tried to suppress the fevers.
We got fevers a few times during the season, but then after that we were disease free for years.
But today I see my friends kids as soon as they get slight fevers the doctors put them on paracetmol(and some even prescribe nimuselide). They just keep on getting fevers after fevers and get admitted in hospitals at such a young age.
Its normal nowadays.
Some more research has to be done on fever and its use in curing diseases. Fever is the natural bodys response by raising the heat of the body it attempts to kill the germs that have invaded the body.
I think the last thing we should do is try and suppress a fever. But it should closely be monitored as high fevers can cause brain damage
