Hi,
I'm so glad you wrote as it gives me a chance to reply to an obvious misreading of this article and may help others from doing as you did. If you would care to read the article again you'll note that I am discussing an association between asthma and emotional aspects of health, rather than a physiological explanation of asthma. I do not suggest that asthma is caused by emotions. Rather, asthma can and does evoke these emotions. Research is suggesting that these emotions may affect the severity of asthma in many individuals and thus addressing the emotional aspects of one's health can improve one's asthma. Its a simple concept and very refreshing to see that research is beginning to uncover this link. I encourage you to read the studies I have referenced for further clarification.
I would also suggest that you may be an excellent example of an individual who could benefit by addressing emotional issues. Your experience as a 3 year old and after sounds terrifying and given the tone of your email you understandably still carry a considerable amount of anxiety and anger about the issue. It is possible that your hypersensitive, inflammation-prone airways may respond favorably, as others have, to healing your emotions whether through alternative methods such as homeopathy or something as simple as journaling about your traumatic experiences.
Best of luck and thanks again for expressing your confusion!
-Nicole
