My thoughts today are about not just listening to my body, but being able to "explain" to my body. I assume my body will in, some ways, reject this idea at first. The body doesn't like sudden change. But I suspect it will be like that time we all started lifting weights on the first day TOO hard. On that day after the workout do you tell your body "sorry, that won't happen again" or do you tell it, "I guess we'll have to live with this because I want to lift weights and get stronger." You later find out that not only does it never hurt like that again, most days your aren't sore at all and feel great.

So I have to explain to my body that this is the right thing to do, and that it will feel better soon. It seems like a complete mind game. I look at proper diet an exercise as a lifelong puzzle that I have been trying to put together my whole life. But I believe that I can put it together. I want there to be a day that I've been eating right and exercising consistently for 5, 10 years. This has been in the back of my mind as a way to start on the path and stay there for a long time. The correct strategy to put together the puzzle.

I'm off to the event that was the reason I decided to push back the start. After today I'm in the clear as far as scheduled events go. I'm even opting out of Thanksgiving. I know watching the clock tick may seem like a poor stategy. But I once read about a basketball coach who was addicted to Coke (the soda). On the day he decided to quit he bought a little refrigerator and put it in his office. He filled every inch of it with Coke. At home he had a 12 cans at the bottom of the fridge. He said if he didn't beat it without the constant temptation, the random temptation would challenge him. This story was told years after his sustained success.

For me, being home alone with loads of money and nothing to do (don't feel bad for me, I like it and I'm never "bored" per se) is my fridge full of Coke. There are tons of places to eat all around me, walking distance. Except for work and my walk, I'll be in CAVE mode most of this time. I don't think I did a good job explaining why this is the way I need to do it. But I just know that it is.

    Best,
