  • Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have Been Duped   by  greggechols     18 y     2,779       6 Messages Shown       Blog: Dreaming Alive

We have been “duped” into believing so much about ourselves that isn’t true.  Our collective psyche in America is severely ill—the trauma we have inflicted on millions of people on the belief we are “spreading democracy” is coming back not only to haunt us—but to kill us, too.

It is as though we are living the truth of “what goes around comes around.”  Heart disease is up, teenage suicide is rising, and half of our fellow citizens are on some kind of medication that is numbing some part of them.  We can no longer experience the fullness of being alive and human in this country—it is too painful!

Why?  Is it because of our diets, our sedentary lifestyle?  Is it because of our air pollution, our lack of attention to nature?  Is it because of our increasingly fast lifestyle, or our rapidly growing consumerism?

Or, could our increasing health problems be related to our inability to recognize or accept the collective trauma we’ve inflicted on millions of other people across the world—not to mention right here at home over the last two and a half centuries?  If, indeed, we are one people across the world, it would seem plausible that there’s a part of us that knows the untold horrors our national machine has inflicted on others—and the witnessing of other horrors by other national machines when we sat back and said nothing.  There’s a part of us individually and collectively that knows these things, and our psyches are paying the price of this unexpressed knowledge through our illnesses.

We as a human species are linked in ways we cannot even imagine.  We are linked to the stars in ways we cannot even imagine.  Women know this through their monthly “cycles”—in ancient days, these were regulated by the moon.  Do you think this is different today?

There are things we know that our bodies hold through illness—both physical and mental.  There’s a reason why millions of war veterans return home with post-traumatic stress disorder, and we as a nation have the same experience on a collective level that we might as being buried deep within our psyches.  Yet, it is affecting us in our daily lives through our health in ways we have not acknowledged.

We dream each other’s dream.  We think each other’s thoughts.  And we experience each other’s terrors, all on one level or another.  We are so bombarded by the physical world we have created that we don’t notice these things are happening on these subtle levels—but they are.

Sigmund Freud and his mentor Joseph Brueyer began to notice the symptoms of women in the late 1800’s who were described as “hysterics.”  The women were carrying the unexpressed trauma that had been inflicted on them and collectively. These kinds of “illnesses” have continued to be identified throughout history in various aspects in both men and women.

This brings us to our own ills, which I suspect are a collective result of unacknowledged and unexpressed actions we have taken against others by our national machine.  Being an American is in our blood, and whatever we do as a nation is in our blood.  We are not apart from the actions of this body of nation.  And, this reflects within in our psyches in both positive and negative ways.  None of this is an accident.

      Greg,

Thanks for taking the time to write this!
I was deeply moved by Bo Lozoff who
I head speak about five weeks ago in
San Diego. He was talking about how
2/3rds of the world goes to bed every night
not sure if they are going to make it to the end of the month.

I am more and more aware of the responsibilty
we each have to make the most of our lives
because we are the few who really can move
      the energy.

The shifts we can make go down to the smallest
level. I was just working with the recycling
and wanting to understand the numbers better
      about what can be recycled.

I don't think we can continue to use my resources
      the way we do.

I just came back from a retreat and was amazed
how consumer based I and others are.

I see the people at Whole Foods making a deep
committment to educate each person to a different
      way of being responsible.

I want to adapt to own bowl, one wooden fork
      and spoon.

So many feelings right now, Greg.
Maybe we want to be reminded we are connected
and loved, even when we can't see this
      or feel this.

      be well,
      your friend,
      Leslie

Leslie, you are so amazing! You've got me thinking so deeply about this...why do I need such extravagance in my life? I find life so much simpler with one of everything if I'm by myself, two of everything with a friend.

You are such a great teacher...
"I am more and more aware of the responsibilty
we each have to make the most of our lives
because we are the few who really can move
        the energy."

You place the responsibility where it should be, on each of us, and I honor you for that. Thank you, because it is true.

I am at school now, taking a break from class, because the words are too much...I am learning as much from the birds flying outside my dorm room, and the dreams coming to me at night...moving in and out of this "other" world makes it difficult to "ground" in this rigorously intellectual environment...but, as you say, I know it is my responsibility in this moment, especially to bridge these worlds.

Blessings, Leslie, and thank you for your prayers and energy. There's plenty heading back your way to San Diego. And it's a joy to have the energy to share writings again!

War is Anathema to Our BEings: http://curezone.com/blogs/m.asp?f=356&i=14
Spirits tells us that killing one another, particularly in war, affects us all at a soul level. Bodily, the shock of war can show up as Gulf War or Agent Orange syndromes.

I think it is very different today. Many women have "lost" this connection and view their time of monthly menses to be a "nuisance" or " the curse". Many women view their bodies negatively secondary to Western ideas of female "beauty"--thin, forever youthful looking. Women have incorporated this negativity into themselves, affecting not only how they feel about themselves but also inducing women's dis-orders. Violence against women, denigration of women, women as "sex objects"--all have taken their toll on women's psyches and cycles and health under patriarchy. Spirit speaks about this: http://curezone.com/blogs/m.asp?f=356&i=20
